Stopped by a DAMN? all grammar naziism aside, osunded liek an awesome trip
Scott, it looks like you guys had a great ride. Great pics as well. Thanks for sharing it with the list. My wife doesn't like long trips on the GS. I find the seat VERY comfy, even on long days, but she doesn't like the passenger seat at all. Ironically, she finds the passenger seat on my 1982 GS1100E to be just fine. I prefer the 500 seat by far.
I'm waiting on a sprocket and chain set so I spent the day wrenching. I installed my new tires (Avon RoadRiders in stock sizes) and removed sprockets and chain. I left the back wheel off so that when the sprocket and chain set arrive Tuesday or Wednesday, I'm all set.
I had never removed and mounted tires before so that was a fun "first." Not a bad job at all. I used a large C-Clamp to break the beads and a pair of tire irons and a couple of flat pry bars to remove and install the tires. I used Murphy's Oil Soap in about a 1:3 mix with water (a tip I got from a guy who busts tires all day) to lubricate the tire beads and rims. It went pretty easily and quickly.
what did you use to remove the valve core, a proper tool or did you improvise or did you not bother, ( if i may ask)

I have had a valve core tool for years -- cheap automotive one. Worked great!
Sorry for the threadjack, Scott! Still good pics. Wish I could ride in country like that without a day of transit!

indeed scott, looked like much fun, cept for maybe the memorial, ( a bit sobering). and TG they do make one which screws onto teh valve stem, ( and stays there. to use it, unscrew it, flip over and use[/threadjack]
Looks like fun. I went to the SC Military Museum today, but didn't get that many pictures, just one of a WWII issue 1911, a BAR and an M1. Wish I had thought to get a pic of the gold plated M16 donated by Gen. Westmoreland.
Thanks guys..
Now that my camera phone takes much better pics than the old one, I photo the hell out of everything :icon_mrgreen:
