Title: am I too big for my gs500
Post by: Dr.Greenseed on October 13, 2008, 02:25:36 PM
I reccentally bought a gs500 that is in pieces I am rebuilding it, and have never ridden it or any gs500 I am 6'2" and about 260-270lbs depending on the weather.  My question is,  Is my bike too small for me will it struggle with my weight on it?

You'll do fine. Since you already have it in pieces, you might want to do some of the suspension upgrades that are common here while you are putting it back together, but other than that you should have no trouble exceeding the speed limit. I've ridden the bike with a passenger with our combined weight around 340 and the bike handled just fine with stock suspension. I'm 6'1" myself and I don't feel cramped on the bike...

I was about 6" 2" and around 240# when I bought my first of two GS500s back in 99 and have done everything on them including 4-500 mile Interstate days on trips to the mtns to play for a total of over 140k GS500 miles.  I think they are up to the task.   :thumb:

Good to know, this is my first bike and I did some homework.  Everything I read said that I should start with a 500cc bike.  But nothing I saw said anything about max payload.  Thanx

Im 5'10, 265 lbs,  And have the shock turned up to 7 but acceleration isnt really a problem with a little clutch I can get the wheel off the ground and I was 2^ with  a 130 lbs chick on the back and going up the bridge was no problem didnt have to down shift until I wanted to pass someone.
