Title: Max turns on mix screw?
Post by: jchc413 on October 15, 2008, 09:46:09 AM
What is the max # of turns recomended on the mixture screws?  Mine are at 3 now and it still feels just a bit lean.  I need to put washers on the needles but one of the screws is stripped cant reach with vise grips so until i fix that I was going to adjust the screws some more...

"FEELS LEAN" ?????  Check smell, and plugs.. This would give you a better ed-ju-mak-a-ted guess, Than "Feels".

Might have to be more specific.

Feels lean where?

For example: I added a K&N lunchbox and it was ok on the low end but really lean on the mid-high end.  Went up to a larger jet and it was fine at full throttle and low throttle but mid was really lean.  So I added 2 washers (total of 3 now) to raise the needle and it is 90% better.  Still lean in the mid; so I need to go up on the main and drop a washer or two.  Mixture screws have been left at 3 with no issues.

I get just a hint of surging at about 7000+ rpms 75-85mph.  Not a lot, I mistook it for wind the first couple times I rode, but Im pretty sure it is surging some.  The power is nice and smooth all the way through.  It makes kind of a rumbling popping sound on decel, not sure if this is normal or not my car with a borla system on it made a similar sound.

I cant tell by looking at the plugs they look just the same as they did before I put the new can and filter on.

Smell?  I havent smelled gas or anything not sure what I am supposed to smell.  Didnt know you could tune a carb by nose.

20-65-147.5, no washers yet 3 turns mix screws

so back to my original question is 3 turns out the max you should go?  sheesh, I know its a litte lean thats not what I was asking.

Well ... washer it ... 7K and 75 mph is not air screw ...
Sorry ... I sent you the kit didn't I ... and you got 65 mids ... sorry no real answers here I am yet to locate the right washers ... how about you stuff an O ring or a couple wraps of sewing thread under that plastic spacer. Its just gotta lift ~1/2 mm ... true cloth string will work plenty ... sorry.
Cool.

I drilled the washers out to fit, as soon as I get that part that I broke from the dealer I will let you know how it works.  i am starting with one washer each.
