Title: possible 12v outlet location (pictures)
Post by: dohabee on October 17, 2008, 04:39:11 PM
I picked up a waterproof 12v outlet with a spring loaded cover today and I think I found a good place to mount it.

I took some pictures and I am looking for opinions on how it looks and how convenient a location I have chosen.

Thanks.

what year is your bike? does it have full fairings? If so what I did was put in in the flat part of the fairing that comes down. that way water doesnt collect in it and cause it to rust.

It is a 2002 so no fairings for me, also the 12v outlet I got is waterproof so I am not too worried about it being exposed to the elements.

Really, I am just curious if people think the way it is mounted looks good or if its just me.

Never thought to put one there.  I'm debating a location also.

By the way, your fork brace is missing a bolt.

...or 4... lol

I just got the GS a few weeks ago, it was a good deal but it still needs alot of little things.

In order to mount the outlet as pictured I am planning on drilling and tapping 2 holes in the underside of the frame.

I don't think it will be a big deal as long as I dont let water get in there.  :dunno_white:

you can also mount it on to your handle bar that way its a little easier to get to. Even if its water proof just make sure you got the cap on it. when not in use

Don't forget it is not waterproof if something is plugged in. I would mount it with the opening facing down, so when it's in use and it happens to rain the water is not accumulated inside.
Just a thought.
