The battery of my GS500E needs to be replaced.
Any suggestion on where I could buy a very good battery on the net? A friend suggested bigcrank.com but they don't list the GS500 model.

walmart ? ok, ok, you said the web. guess you could use bikebandit or whoever. keeping it trickle charged and full of water is more important than xyz brand vs abc ;)
I'm looking for a maintenance free battery.
I've been to Wal-mart today and they carry Energizer batteries, many are maintenance free but none fit the Gs500. Also went to Canadian Tire and they say this battery is not available anymore. Bigcrank.com's batteries don't fit the Gs500 either.
I guess I will buy one from a dealership.
I just bought a battery at walmart... everstart ES10AL2... it fits perfect except the vent is on the opposite side, which to me is a non-issue

I think Walmart sells a maintenance-free battery (ES12BS) that has been used by other members of the forum for their GS500s:

Not sure if you have Autozone in your area, but I just replaced the batter in my 04GS500F. I can't remember the model but it was about $46.00 USD with $10 core charge if you don't bring the old batter in.

Here in Canada, Walmart doesn't stock those ES12 batteries.
I went with the local bike shop and picked up a CB10L-B2 for $40.
Previously, I picked up a battery at Canadian Tire and it was so bad that they took ages to charge it.
When I noticed it wouldn't hold charge for more than 2 days they claimed it wasn't a battery that they sold. :mad:
I had to make a big deal of it to get my $110 back for the defective battery.
I guess my local bike shop is pretty decent,

Thank you. The Scorpion battery on batterystuff.com looks very promising. It is out of stock now but I want to wait until spring to buy anyway.
On a side note, does anyone know why recent bikes don't feature a crank? It doesn't look like an expensive feature and would be much more easy to use than starting the bike on compression when the battery is dead. I don't quite understand why it is not available anymore.
