Title: raised boots?
Post by: smurf_e_lee on October 19, 2008, 07:38:55 PM
hey everyone. I just bought my 2006 gs500f a couple months ago. I love it but i was having some trouble with the height. I did not want to lower the bike because I did not want to mess with the handling of the bike and I did not get the seat shaved (yet). I was considering getting some extra rubber under those boots (about 3/4-1" depending on the boot and what feels comfortable). Although I am concerned about shifting. I do not know what its called but i searched the site to see if there is a possible way to change the shifter to be a little wider from the pegs to the shifter. Is that a possible option? (BTW i love this site everyone its helping so much all the post are helping so much)

If I understand correctly, you are having trouble with the height of the bike and want to buy motorcycle boots with extra-thick soles? I guess this could work, but it seems that lowering the bike/seat (which you already know about and referenced above) would be a better option. Several people have lowered their machines without any major handling issues. Search for posts from Teek and GSjack for more info.

If you want more room between the peg and the shift lever, you should be able to remove the shift lever (loosen the pinch bolt first) and rotate it away from the peg. Then tighten up the pinch bolt and you're done!

Thanks berto i guess i was looking for a quick fix to an ever growing problem with me and bikes. I have about a 29 inch inseam and its killing me. Its not a problem once im up and going and stopped at lights its just the miniscule problem of parking i was researching for a long time around the pages and i was reading about the change of the dynamics of the bike which i guess just scared me a bit, after talking to a bunch of riders though I think I will get it lowered just a bit. Thanks for the help!

if i was afflicted with your end of the height spectrum (my problem is being a 6'4" yahoo) instead of mine, I'd lower it in about two shakes. i run into this 2-3 times a day. part z doesn't fit, so let's change (and continually modify) parts a-y to fit z. it's soooo much better if you just fix the root of the problem (and since you likely don't want to ride with stilts!) and lower the bike.

then all the cool motorcycle specific boots you buy will work ! :)
