when i put the key in the seat lock it wont budge.....i tried to force it and the chamber of the lock actually moved 180 degrees and now wont move at all again.....anyone else have a similar problem?
:? have you tried this before?, have you ever had the seat off?, key switch/key may have been replaced, or try this, push down while trying to turn key, but do not break key, that would suck, then i would have to show you how to hotwire your bike.
I've had this problem....only when I had the side panels off and routed the lock cable in the wrong manner when I put the pnales back on. This resulted in the cable binding and the lock not working. I pressed the seat down and worked with it until it finally popped open. But be careful not to brake the key!
crap i think ill make a spare before i try this......key is a little bent from turning it in the gas cap too hard (i forgot the prev. owner told me to push on the corner of it first) but not too bent...and also that has notihing to with it b/c ive opened it plenty of times with the bent key....can u get the key made at any locksmith? or do i have to go to dealer? (curious how much theyd charge me....$50?)
You might have to search around for a locksmith with the correct blank. Most places only stock car key blanks. No big deal, they cost the same just about. No $50 keys or anything like that. The bent key shouldn't be too much of a problem to copy as long as all the notches are okay... the key I got with my bike was kinda twisted from overzealous gas tank opening as well.
Check out the old thread Finally had a key made! (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=3001.0) to see the blank my local locksmith used. The last line of my 1st post spells out the numbers and letters on the blank.
I can confirm that pushing down on the seat (and gas tank lock) before turning the key can help a LOT.
Good luck!
