Title: Putting the GS500F in perspective
Post by: john on September 14, 2003, 06:10:27 AM
Lets face it, for only $700 more than the 02 model you get a full modern styling fairing with good wind protection and better tires and an oil cooler.  I know people who have dumped $700 and more into their GS on less.  Heck, how many people have asked about importing a TCP fairing?

At $5000 list and maybe a little haggling most people can pick this bike up for under 5K delivered and it looks like a baby GSX-R.  How can you complain?  (OK other than the lack of a bump in power)

I'm SERIOUSLY considering trading my '02 for one.

or keeping it too if my Wife goes away for a while  :thumb:

anyone got a garage in the Philly area where I could keep the new one?

The new GS seems like a great entry point for newbies wanting a sport bike.  I know too many people who bought a GSXr or Ninja or R6/R1 because they liked the way the bike looked.  Maybe this will help some newbies stay away from race replicas as a first bike.

Stop messing about, the GS500 is still based on 10 yr + old technology. It's too heavy and not stylish.

Suzuki can throw as many updates at it as they want but it still wont change the fact its a heavy steel commuter.

Same ur money and get a couple yr old SV. They are just plain better.

Some of us like heavy steel '80s technology, or who don't want an SV.

Since you've bought your beat up SV and obviously have no love for the GS; why don't you, to use your vinacular, piss off?

I correct myself.  The difference is ONLY $600 from the 2002 model and the 2004

I actually just showed the bike to a friend, who was looking at a Katana.  He said he's considering the new GS500 now, he wants something with a full fairing that won't kill him and he didn't like the EX500.  Already looks like it has some more appeal.

And the Katana is hardly any faster. The GS will attract a new type of buyer -the entry level squid bike.

Me personally. I'm not a huge fan of fully faired bikes. But for those of you who are this is a rather beautiful attempt. If you have an older bike you might look at getting this fairing through the parts dept at your local Suzuki dealer. It'll propablly cost though.

The naked GS had a style all its own.
That faring screems BABY BUSA  I don't want my bike screaming baby anything.
I would not have bought my GS if it had been wraped in all that ugly plastic.Of course these are all one mans opinios.
I am glad there will be more and new parts.
I wonder how much for just the new oil cooler?
