Title: Bike still loosing power - symptoms
Post by: rrbarna on September 14, 2003, 07:06:43 AM
My bike's still loosing power bigtime.  I have not yet opened the carbs but after 2 weeks... here's the scoop:

THE PROBLEM
-It can happen when stopped, at speed and on the highway
-in gear, I can twist the throttle all I want, revs will sloooowly go up
-very slow acceleration
-in neutral, idle rev is very low and revving has a lag-effect
-one header pipe (right) heats up ALOT faster than the other

CURE:
-bike always runs properly after 30-40 minutes rest
-after rest, bike may not run properly unless placed on level ground
-SOMETIMES, right after it screws up, a good rev in neutral blows a puff of smoke out of the exhaust and bike runs fine with no rest period.

COLD MOTOR (0-30min riding)
-bike will always start
-I can ride guaranteed 30 minutes without problems

HOT/WARM MOTOR
-it can happen any time - not noticably dependant on how hard I ride

I have cracked the gas cap open for venting and that has not changed anything.  Any additional ideas you guys think might be causing this?

sounds like your misfiring or running lean or rich on one cylinder... if one is getting super hott, then it may be lean. Sounds like a fun project!
