New to the forum, thought I would say Hello to all and immediately ask for help...LOL
My Girlfriend recently had an unfortunate mishap causing the fork tubes on my 2007 GS500F to be a little bent. The driver that pulled out in front of her wasn't insured and since she
didn't need to go to the hospital, and my deductable is $500, i decided to fix it myself rather than claim it on my insurance. I need a pair of fork tubes for my GS. The dealer
claims that the part number I need is good for 2004 to 2008. I can't find any used tubes on Ebay or online for this model range. I have already seperated the tubes from the sliders and
just need to find a set of tubes that will work. I know the tubes are made by KYB, 37mm diameter, and 605mm long, Does anyone know of an alternate model number I can search for
that will work? I also understand that putting a Kat front end on these bikes is quite a popular mod and would pay a reasonable price for a set of stock GS500 tubes that would get my
bike back on the road. Any help on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks!
Welcome and I am sure some one here has some.
Good luck and if the guy was not insured did you atleast call the cops on him so he don't really hurt some one?
this is a really good time to upgrade to a katana front end. there are tons of threads on it, but dguyver has the best howto write up somewhere.
check it out with the forum's search function.
welcome new member :)
Yes, full police report, the guy was ticketed for failure to yield as well as no insurance. I am certain he will be paying dearly as I will follow up via the police report number to be sure he
doesn'r get off easy. I might even take him to small claims with a box full of reciepts when the bike is fixed. I read some posts about the Kat front end conversion and might consider it if
I run out of options, but For now, my girlfriend really liked the stock handling and wants it to remain stock if possible. Thanks for the replies!!
You definately need the later model tubes as the earlier ones are different. I was faced with a similar problem recently and couldn't fit the earlier tubes as the valving etc is different and the damper rod wouldn't fit. If you could find second hand forks offan earlier model (someone who has done the Kat swap!) then you could fit them no problem. If you got all the internals and tubes, they would probably fit your sliders too.
If the cager was at fault he should just pay for the repairs anyway. If he's not insured thats his bad luck! But no good if he's broke of course.
Good luck! :thumb:
You dont swap internals of one into the other ...
You stuff the whole tube into your triples ... 04+ triple will take 89-00 tubes and 04+ wheel, disc and caliper will fit in that. Try swapping 89-00 upper legs into an 04 lower etc etc ... you going to make a mess ...
Kat swaps ... I can do em but I am not yet confident enough that they can be sent and someone with very little mechanical ability swap them on.
89-95 is the best, and I am working on several things to make them swap over easy ... But expect it to cost 400 bucks or so ... now that all the cheap FE's have been sucked off ebay ... eyeing all the gstwinners suspiciously ... :cookoo:
Cool.
Buddha.
Thanks Buddha, That's the info I was looking for... Wondered if the wheel and caliper would fit forks from earlier models. Now I just have to find some 89-00 complete legs or some 04-
08 tubes.
I have a 2008. Where do i get the progressive springs.
