Title: Another stand question
Post by: Thanatos on October 25, 2008, 08:53:27 PM
I recently bought a 2005 GS500F and went out and bought a generic bike stand, only to bring it home and realize that there are no places to mount spools on the swing arms.  Has anyone recently bought a set front/rear stands (of any kind) that they can recommend?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Drill holes in the swing arm to bolt the spools. I have done this on several bikes. Just make sure they clear the chain adjusters.

This may seem like a stupid question but can you take it back for a refund?

I ask because you can get adjustable/universal bike stands. No spools, they have rubber/plastic/metal cradles on the inside of the left and right upward leg. They are mounted on bolts and you move them in and out depending on how big the swing arm is of the particular bike, then you just stand the bike up streight, roll the stand underneath and put each hook around the swingarm. Then just hoist it up. No need to mount any spools then.

yeah man, you just need a non-spooled stand. For a good, fairly inexpensive one, look up T-rex stands on ebay. The rear works great with our bikes. I can't really say the same for the front, but it works well enough.
