Title: How many Link Chain for 15/39 Gearing.
Post by: AyeKay on October 26, 2008, 02:24:42 PM
How many links would I need if I replaced my front sprocket with a 15 tooth and stock rear?

I saw a link to a calculator a while back but I couldn't find it.

Thanks

110 link would work fine. iirc that's the stock length of chain. you're only changing the cirumference of the front cog 5/8" which means

16 * .625 = 10" circumference
15 * .625 = 9.370"

which is a difference of 5/8", and devide that by TWO for the never-ending chain, and it's only a .312" difference, easily compensated at the adjusters.

there's a chart somewhere, but i don't have it. :)

*************

you're putting on a NEW chain with that front cog, right ? new chain = new front cog, old chain + new cog = worn out chain AND cog FAST. ;)

I installed a 15T and a new 110 chain.  Works fine :thumb:

Center distance is less than 5/32" longer than standard for 15/39T.

your stock chain will do just fine no need to spend extra money.
