Title: motor swap
Post by: stompy on October 31, 2008, 09:31:09 PM
OK, I know this is a comon question but what would be the best way to get more power out of my bike (97 gs500), I need low end torque.
I was thinking about a motor swap but don't know which one to go with, any help would be appreciated.

A sprocket change will do that. one tooth down up front, maybe two up in the rear and you'll notice a difference.

if you wanted to swap for another motor, a SECOND GENERATION, NOT first EX500 motor is a good place to start.
I say second gen because they have a better transmission, better flywheel, and some other bits that dont suck internally.  first gen motors you'll be working on nonstop.  and DONT get one from a racebike, the EX500 motor becomes a time bomb if raced.

Dude ... slow down ... your'e gonna hurt somehting at this rate.
He was talking about an kawasaki EX500, not a swap I'd attempt on a GS.
Your problem brooklyn is a bad mechanic.
Bring it to charlotte and I'll guarantee you will leave without any of the damn problems you have had. Else, slow down email/pm me and I'll walk you through the issues you're having.
PM me for an address.
To have a bike as your daily transportation, you're gonna have to be a pretty decent mechanic.
Cool.

check out something like sprocket specialists, or maybe the website for Renthal, Sunstar, JT sprockets, has something.  ANYTHING BUT Vortex.  vortex sprockets SUCK, particularly the aluminum ones. aluminum is just too freakin soft and not worth it for anything other than track where you look at everything often.
