Post by: Mdow on November 02, 2008, 10:53:26 AM
ok so my right side Kat front fork has been leaking for about a month now (REALY don't ride much) just wondering if i run it out of shock oil is its going to damg it? or is it just not going to work right?.  its going to get seal replaced and such when i put it up for winter but its 76 outside today and the weather has been decent latly so i have still been able to ride

its leaking up at the dust cover so its some inner seal thats bad

Prolly not ... the thing is, its not like motor oil that needs to circulate under pressure and return ... most of the innards are coated with the oil and even if you open the drain screw and drain it, the innards will still come out goopy wet.
Cool.

basically, the oil in your fork isnt there strictly to lubricate it, its bigger purpose, is as a damper to help the suspension function properly.    the internals pretty much are in an oil BATH, so any moving part, until you run the fork completely out of oil, oughta be ok.
