Title: Using a Honda CRF250 Frame petcock. ? about the tube on the bottom of my tank.
Post by: cosmiccharlie on November 02, 2008, 07:36:51 PM
I got a honda CRF250 petcock for my bike.  I have it all plummed with fuel tube.  Just wondering about the extra tube coming out of the bottom of my 04 gas tank.  It is right next to the tank petcock.  Should it be plugged or routed somewhere?  I am assuming it should be plugged.

Thanks

Without a picture,  I assume you are talking about the tube to the rider's right that is not part of the tank mounted petcock.  If that is the port you are talking about then it is the tank excess drain.  It also drains water away from the gas cap area. If you flip up the gas cap, you can see the inlet to the tube. If you look into the tank you can see where it passes through the tank and exits on the bottom.

Its a bad idea to plug it, because if leave the bike in the rain, the water will pool in the recess for the gas cap and leak past the seal that the cap makes with the gas tank and leak into the fuel tank contaminantt your gas with water.

That is exactly what I am talking about.  Thank for the info.  I didn't realize it was the drain.

Thanks!
