Title: Choke stuck and won't go all the way down.
Post by: cyrusyn on November 03, 2008, 06:22:49 AM
Hi,
I am having a problem with the choke on my GS500. I can't pull the choke all the way down. The choke won't go down past top 1/3. With choke stuck at the top 1/3, engine keeps turning over and won't catch the ignition. How can I fix this choke?

Sounds like a stuck cable to me.

There Is the slide for the coke on the carbs that you should be able to see from the left side of the bike, just work the choke and look there.  Try lubing that with some wd40 and see if it loosens up or if there is something blocking the slide.  If that isn't the problem then you might have a junked up cable.  good luck

Thanks!
Today I forced the choke lever down and it went down to half and I was able to start up the engine.
But the bike now idles at 1500 instead of 1100 and it idles rough and sound different.
Could it be that the engine misfiring because the choke is open all the time due to a stretched cable?
