Title: Another bolt on Exhaust flange question
Post by: plurpimpin on November 03, 2008, 02:33:16 PM
Why is it necessary to weld on a new flange when using a bolt on exhaust? I understand the necessity of it if the bolt pattern doesn't match up. But i just got a yoshimura TRS off a gsxr 1000 and the bolt pattern matches up perfectly with my gs500 header. would it be ok to just bolt the can up or is there another reason it is necessary to weld on a new flange that i don't know about?

Usually the GS midpipe doesn't have a flange to connect to a bolt-on pipe.  It's more like a slip-on.

in the first place: if you have a flange it means that somebody has already modified you bike.
If the flange matches the design of the pipe and the angles satisfy your needs, just go ahead and bolt this pipe on.
NO reason to build and weld on the new flange if the old one works!

cheers

Well then i guess the previous owner modified the exhaust. Works out for me, less work to do. looks like i'm putting my new can and lunchbox on this weekend

Booya ... someone gave you a flange ... Maybe that GSXR tri oval can will fit ... measure it ... like make a paper outline and take it and match it to its gasket.
Cool.
