I'm not looking to do this mod until it gets closer to spring at the earliest, but I had some questions.
From what I've read on the forums, when you install an aftermarket exhaust you need the exhaust and a flange to connect it. People go all over finding welders and exhaust shops to make the flange for them. I was looking at the yoshi website and they say

that looks to be the case from the way it reads. It would still entail welding the new midpipe on to the headers though... I've never heard of a GS specific can like this so you may want to post where you read it at to get a consensus if it's legit.

For anyone with interest in this thread, I found out that with the TRS slipon for the F models, you dont need to make a flange and you dont need to weld the midpipe even. Theres an installation pdf in the link Chanse posted.
Yeah a few people here have installed TRS slip-on pipes. You simply cut the stock exhaust at the midpipe (follow the instructions that come with the Yoshi), with a hacksaw or whatever, and tighten a clamp over where the Yoshi slips on.
For pre 2005 models, the midpipe is smaller and you'll need someone to weld on a slightly larger piece to make it work. This shouldn't cost more than 15-30 bucks at an exhaust shop. But for the GS500F models, it's pretty painless. Good luck!
The Yoshi slipon is a no-weld system. As has been said before, you chop and 'slip-on'. It is an easy operation that you can complete in less than an hour.

What other slip on mufflers for the 07 GS500F would work?
Would a Yoshi RS-3 Carbon work? I think I would just need to find a midpipe that the correct fitting on both sides....will it affect the carb?
I have a Yoshi RS-3 carbon on my 2001, I got it with the stainless flange and midpipe attached off eBay for 1/3 cost of a new slip on CF, (that they don't make to fit a GS), paid $80 to get the pipe tweaked to fit, welded, and my brake pedal cut, welded to some scrap steel, and ground down to a custom curve to fit over the fatter midpipe. I still need to finish smoothing out the pedal, but I really love the fatter than stock midpipe. So yeah, you can get the can! ;)

But guys, it is much louder in real-person and less of that scooterish making noise. A more loud, clean and low grumble, beautiful noise, very aggressive.
Does anyone know if it will make it much louder if the silencer is removed? (little screw at muffler tip to pull it out..).

Yes quite a bit, but like you will have noticed already it isn't majorly louder at idle but gets much, much louder under load (ie accelerating away). I rode my TRS around for a while with the restrictor out and ended up finding it annoyingly loud (especially on long, fast commutes or freeway up hills). Personally I find with it in it's perfect (for my tastes) so I'm really glad the system comes with that feature!
I have the TRS on my '06 F... I love it. I surfed around youtube clips for weeks before I made a purchase. The clips don't really do justice to the can itself. Its much louder and aggressive than the clips show. If you can find one cheap enough, get it. Most bike shops here in Ontario want just shy of $400 for the TRS, but I got an awesome deal through an end of season promo sale and paid just over $300 for it.
i've got the TRS on my '06 gs500f and love the sound, i have the db-killer out on mine cuz i love the sound of it with it out...

it does sound much deeper and aggressive in person but you get the general idea of it when you listen/watch the video.
i got mine from www.starcycle-usa.com mostly because i got it when it first came out and i couldn't find it at any dealers in Ontario....it was fairly cheap and shipping was quick and installation was very easy.
I thought I post this up of what I did to my '97. I believe the new GS's have a bigger pipe to fit the diameter of the slip-on pipe, but if you have an earlier model, you have to buy an adapter pipe(Kragem, Pep Boys, Auto Zone) to weld on to make it fit.

I can never understand the point of videos of revving bikes - it bears no resemblance at all to the way the bike sounds under load, ie driving down the road.
A drive-by video on the other hand is much more informative... :thumb:

true. Although I spent many hours droning through youtube videos, I decided to go with the Yoshi can.... glad I did. If the weather co-operates, I'll try to make a drive-by vid sometime soon.
