Post by: mach1 on November 06, 2008, 05:25:06 PM
so yesterday the bike was turning over well trying till but the batt was low so i hooked up a charger for a few min and gave it another go, nothing just the same but it was turning. i let the charger sit over night on low now it sounds like an rc car the starter just spin but wont engage the motor. it the starter bad or did i do something when i was welding. it did turn after welding. where is the starter I wanna give it a good tap.

Give it a wack with a wrench or rubber hammer. I've had the same thing happen with a car starter. Sometimes they need a kick in the butt.

starter is below the carbs, goes over to the left hand side of the motor.   a good whack wont really help it much, because the starter gear is a clutched setup, nothing like a bendix gear starter.

the battery is 6 months old and it was tested god and got a full charge. but the bike sat for about two weeks in my cold garage. so is it best to just throw a batt at it if it might be the starter. I have no issue throwing parts at a car or bike as long as im not paying for it.
