Title: Missing One of my Front Brake Bolts
Post by: AyeKay on November 07, 2008, 01:13:14 PM
I am missing one of the (2) bolts that mount the front caliper assembly to the front wheel.

Any information on replacement?

Thanks

I hope you didn't lose the bolt while riding!  :o  You should probably purchase a replacement bolt at a dealer - I would avoid hardware store bolts because they may not have the required strength. Don't forget to use Blue Loctite and tighten to specified torque!

Loctite both while you're at it.  May be a good time to go through the other nuts/bolts on the bike while you got the loctite out.  (ie) front and rear calipers, shift lever, handlebar bolts......

Alright, so I should go to a dealer to find the replacement?

You can probably find one at a good hardware store, just make sure it's the proper grade.  Look at the small number on the head of the bolt for grade:

Probably a 8.8 or possibly a 10.9, approx equivelant to our US grade 5 or 8 respectively.

I never loctite, just tighten them properly.  Use a torque wrench if you don't have a feel for it.

Alright thanks, Im gonna go go see if I can find a bolt this morning, and go back and make sure the rest are up to spec with the tourque wrench!

Edit :

I was looking thru a bunch of ATV botls , and found a suitable bolt.
