I'm james and i live in the Bay Area.
I've had many bikes in the past. 76 CB550, 99 SV650, 01 GSXR600 and my last bike was a honda F4
Had to sell the F4 because my wife is sick and I needed extra cash to pay bills. I thought my riding days were over. Than I found my new ride. Its a 2001 GS500. Got it very cheap. It needs alot of cosmetic work but, runs well and has low miles. Never thought I would buy a GS but its actaully kinda of growing on me.
Welcome to the nuthouse, and congrats on getting back into riding! The bay area is rich with great riding areas!

Oh, hey, welcome!
Did I pass you and your girl once on Pescadero or 84 near Stage, about a month ago? It was a Yellow GS that I passed (or, was it a white '89...)?

looks like there was a girl on a GS500.
Doc Wong ride this Sunday the 25th; starts at 9am in Redwood City.
Looks to be a wet ride  :icon_mrgreen:
I'm a (relatively) new rider too! Yay! I've logged about 1000 miles on my 2002 GS500 over the past few months...
I've seen a few around town. One of my twins at Planet Granite a few months back. :thumb:
If the weather is nice next weekend, shall we ride?
It was the best, most fun ride I've had yet. The weather started off beautiful and sunny, and then it rained right after lunch, about 2ish. I was the only one wearing a rainsuit. :icon_mrgreen:
I'll be outta town for a wedding next weekend, and it's supposed to rain Thursday-Friday, but soon (I still have to fix my brother's 750 Maxim).

Really? Which PG do you go to? I'm at the Sunnyvale PG a 2 - 3 times a week, but I haven't seen a GS (E or F) there before.
Welcome!

I'm at the Presidio gym in SF... I go 3-4 times a week, we should ride and climb!
Sup fellow bay area riders, another GS rider over here in Milpitas. I recently joined BARF too, We should get a GS ride going one of these days. Just picked up my 2005 GSF from a buddy at a killer deal haven't ridden much in the past few years, so I'm looking to shake the cob webs off!

Nice! I haven't gotten up there yet, but I've seen the pics and heard that the new gym is amazing! Maybe this'll be the perfect excuse to go see it in person. :)
What do you climb? Bouldering or toproping/leading?
I really like the bouldering there, but if my schedules line up I top rope with my partner. I've been lagging on getting my lead cert... Of course, I don't like going there when it rains, so I haven't been too consistently recently. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry so I'll be there then! :thumb:
You should totally get lead certified, but it does make it harder to find a climbing buddy when you want to lead. The level of trust you have to have is exponentially higher than when toproping. You could get dropped faster than a hot baked potato. :icon_eek:
Have a great time tomorrow and ride safe! :thumb:

Does anybody want to go for a meet sometime?
Today's sunshine (even if it's not for long) makes me want to get out there and GO vroom! :woohoo:
Let's do it! Vrroooooom
Forecast said rain today, so I bussed it to school, but when I left my apartment I immediately regretted my decision. Boo to not being able to see the sky from my bedroom.

maybe you could watch some weather reports on tv :dunno :dunno_black: :icon_razz:

Anybody interested in a ride within these next few weeks?
Yup! :woohoo:
Weather looks good for Sunday! I was thinking about riding to Davis and puttering around Berryessa. I'm coming from SF.
Sadly, I was up in at home in Fairfield all weekend :(
Just to throw it in here, I'm also a Norcal GS owner. I live out in Fremont, which is pretty close to the OP.
Also on BARF. Guess my username.
I'm on BARF, too. Guess my nickname. :flipoff:

Hey all. I just came across this thread. I dont know where ive been this whole time. Anyhoo, Im in Hayward right on the CV border and always looking for folks to ride with. Im a bit of a noob so Im still taking Redwood pretty easy, but Im working on it. I just picked up a GSXR to complement my 500 but am gonna try to keep her away from the twisties until I am more comfortable. In the meantime, I'll be taking the GS through redwood and the like. I hope to see you guys out there!
Also on BARF. But I mostly lurk.
You let me know if you need anyone to exercise your Gixxer for ya, jsspuler...yanno...just out of the goodness of my heart 'n' all.... ;)
Thats awfully kind of you! But actually the GS has been the one neglected as of late. Still trying to ride the GS at least once a week to keep her happy but its getting harder and harder when the GSXR is just sitting there lookin all purrty...
Also in Bay Area. I live in Sonoma but work mainly in Santa Rosa. Definitely would be up for a ride sometime with some other GS owners.
Hello Bay Area, new to GStwin and loving my GS500. I'm based in SF but am down to ride the best roads the area has to offer, anyone care to join? Also a Barfer .
Welcome!
Come out for the Doc Wong clinics (they're free!), next one is Oct 24th. They're posted on BayAreaRidersForum.com under Training once a month.
Thanks scratch, great idea :star: - Registered.
bring your raingear :D
Couldn't fix the GS in time and the Virago had a bald front tire. Will definitely be there Nov 21st.
Started with a group of 6. It was sunny half of the ride. The roads were wet, with fresh piles of red pine needles here and there; perfect for practicing the topic; only slipped a little, once. Rained here and there. Got cold at the finish where there was still snow on the sides of seaside 9. Finished with 4 very happy and more experienced riders!
The other two just went home early.

Next month's ride is Dec 19th.
Tar snakes were slippery too, but avoidable; just had to adjust your line through the turn.
I'm still living vicariously, so please post up a ride report after next week's (Dec 19th) Doc Wong ride...pretty please!!?? :icon_mrgreen:
What a fantastic ride!
Because of the rain, Doc went over rain riding techniques. Weight the outside peg, upper body position (kiss the mirrors), and a smooth addition of throttle at the beginning of the turn. 6 showed up for the class (incl. Doc) and 4 of us went on the ride. The rain blanketed us from time to time, and there was a modicum of pine needles, leaves and those little pine cones; not to mention a plentiful scattering of branches (a few 2" dia.), but there was an amazing amount of traction available where it could be had; expecially on Tunitas Creek!
The technique kept us all upright, and I think I exhausted myself practicing, because on the ride home down Page Mill, I just couldn't keep my body position anymore, and was sliding both ends. Mostly stepping out the front, which spooked me, so I slowed down to 25-30.
Sounds as though it was a DARNED exciting ride!!!! :icon_eek: :woohoo:
