Instead of endless talking let's do something now about heading off gun control in the Obama Administration.
There are about 4 dozen "Blue Dog" Democrats in the House of Representatives whose seats could be in jeopardy in the next election if they oppose our 2nd Amendment rights, plus a number of moderate Democrats in the Senate. But thanks to the machinations of the Democratic caucus it may still be possible to pass such gun control legislation as a permanent assault gun ban, gun show ban, so-called "child-proof" guns and huge taxes on guns and ammunition.
The following letter is designed to head off any gun control effort by sending a message to the Democrats that their majority in Congress may be in danger if they advance a gun control agenda. It's a lot easier to stop such an agenda before it gets started than after a new President makes it a priority.
Believe it or not this approach does work as politicians really hate to get people who appear sensible and may be influential and/or generous with campaign funds mad at them.
Below is a letter form for your representative and senators. It is oriented toward Democratic legislators but will work OK for Republicans if you take out the next to last "vote against the party" paragraph. Just fill in the blanks with the legislator's name, including his title, and your name.
Names and addresses are available from: http://www.capwiz.com/nra/dbq/officials/
If any of your legislators are newly elected the addresses should be available through their campaign websites.
email works pretty well in my experience but not as well as a snail-mail letter as some legislators either aren't computer literate or are too computer literate and just generate a canned meaningless response designed to make you think a human actually read it.
Dear __(Representative/Senator)____________________
With a new administration due to take office I am writing to you to express my concern that there may be attempts to pass new gun control legislation, and specifically to reinstate the failed Assault Gun Ban, part of the Democratic Party Platform.
Not only did the ban have no effect, according to an FBI study, but among the banned rifles were those which have become the most popular target, hunting and self-defence rifles in America. I cannot see how anyone, especially a President-elect, could square a supposed devotion to the 2nd Amendment with reinstating a firearm ban based on nothing but cosmetics and a bad image in the entertainment media.
If you vote for reinstating the Assault Gun Ban or any other gun control measure which harrasses innocent gun owners, interfers with their enjoyment of their sport and their right to self defence, interfers with their purchase of firearms or reinstates the Assault Gun Ban I will have no choice but to support your opponent in the next election.
I am well aware of the horse-trading that goes on in party caucuses to allow members with endangered seats to avoid voting on contentious legislation while still arranging to have enough votes for passage. If the majority of your party votes for and passes any of the gun control measures I described or for an Assault Gun Ban I will support your opponent in the next election regardless of how you, personally, voted.
I sincerely hope you will win my future support and that I hear your views on this subject.
Yours truly,

My grandfather just sent me this spam:
QuoteI was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did.
She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!'
To which I said, of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!'
She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into your house?'
My reply was, 'No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.'
already in the NRA and already buying ammo and guns as fast as i can till jan when obama with most likly violate the bill or rights. this will only prove that we are one step closer to a dictator. if you can change the 2nd amendment why not change the first. its just a step down a dark road.
Dictator? Are you kidding me? G.W. Bush was the one to say he wanted to be a Dictator! Where were you for that? Guys... The president is not the king, no matter how hard they try to be. They can't do anything to any Amendment without the support of WE THE PEOPLE. The people WANT guns, therefore the 2nd Amendment can't go away. And... Taking away the 1st Amendment? WTF? Obama is a religious nut, just like every other politician. There's NO WAY that would happen. He CAN'T change the 2nd Amendment. And NO politician would try without the support of the American people. You guys are WAY off the end of this. If you think the Clinton Bans did anything to gun ownership, you're kidding yourself. The ONE THING they did was shutup the liberal moms and cops about gun bans. You could still get any weapon, clip, and Ammo you wanted. The two most restrictive weapons control measures in the US were passed in 1968 and 1986. Feel free to look up the president in 1986.
This is just a stupid-ass distraction, just like the supposed riots... There were no riots when Obama won.
Don't believe for a second senators don't read their mail/email- when the bailout was still pending I sent an email to both of Oregon's senators, and got replies back from both- and an explanation from Gordon Smith (R) why he voted for it. Maybe it was just a form letter with a signature, but someone read it- your voice counts on some level- likely not to some liberal fanatic, but they will read it.
Damn Frankie, we need to get into the gun business. Talk about feeding on fear and raking in the cash...

I think the took Charleton Heston's guns actually- you know once his hands reached that particular condition.....
here's the thing. there are too many people in this country that own guns. in order for the government to successfully destroy the 2nd ammendment they'd have to take each and every gun from every person, nome by home. can you say civil war? no way our elected officials are that retarded.
I duno who wrote that letter but I have more respect for my Congressman than to send something like that to him. There are better ways to get your point accross than to tell them you are going to vote for someone else?
I wouldnt put my name to those words.
haha you repubs are such retards. Always falling for fear mongering. You really think Obama gives a shaZam! about gun rights at this time? Think of all the other stuff that actually matters to him: economy, war, environment, reversing GWB exec orders, shutting down Gitmo
The last thing Obama cares about is gun control yet I saw a report the other day that gun/ammo sales are through the roof. All the stupid right wingers are upset they got housed this election so they need a way to take out their anger and frustration by gobbing up guns/ammo and declaring it's the end of the second amendment since we have a lib president. get a life.

Letters are useless. Ask me how I know. My gf used to work for our Senator processing letters. Let me drop some knowledge on you. First DON'T EVER SEND A LETTER VIA USPS. Here is what happens when you send a letter US mail. It gets sent to D.C. From D.C. it gets routed to a series of 3 X-ray facilities that scan all mail going to the government. This takes about 2 weeks per facility so figure 6 weeks added on to your letter. Then it gets sent to your state's senator's office. THEN the FIRST thing the aides do is open the letter and photocopy it and throw the original out. All the x-rays destroy the paper and makes it crumble when you touch it so they have to copy it as soon as they get it. THEN they skim your letter and assign it to a category (gun control/abortion/taxes/etc). Once your name, category and stance (yea or nay) are recorded into the computer your letter is filed away and a generic response is pulled up. The aide tweaks the letter, then prints it out to be shipped back to you.
Your senator will NEVER read your lever or even know of it. They are so busy and on a need to know basis.
Moral of the story: EMAIL YOUR REPS. It gets there instantly, doesn't need to goto xray facilities, doesn't waste paper and you get a response in 2 weeks.
Hope this helps. :thumb: :thumb:

might as well kiss good bye the offshore drilling reversal. exec order. but ill laugh cause forst high gas round again, will be SQUARELY his fault. and no it ownt take 10 years to get it online. at the most, maybe half of that, so he COULD keep it running, allow it. and be the pres who brought it in,. then again he may want us to be addicted to foreign oil. me i wish we didnt have to use oil at all. however that is quite a while away. thats a long term goal, a short term one is to lessen our dependance on foreign oil. if you disagree, i seriously like to hear why

How do you think the rest of us f%$king live without guns? Yes thats right, perfectly fine. Its the fact you have a gun loaded in your house or on your person at any one time that puts you in fear.
We are far more vulnerable here, we can't even defend ourselves without risking punishment, yet we still get along fine. We don't line up for the government or panic over when an evil man will burst into our house to kill us.
Trust me mate the least of your worries is someone with a gun, its highly unlikely and id be willing to bet 90% of the time you'd panic. Your more at danger from some thug knifing you in the back and robbing you.
Danger is from things you don't see, if someone has the brashness to pull a gun on you it is unlikely your going to get hurt, rather than bloke who walks up to you and shoots you before you even see it coming.
Your gun wont protect you in those SECONDS.
I need to move to the UK. I have been reading people on this site for months complain about how horrible obama is gonna be, but nobody can give any info on how anyone else would do better. Not to mention, most all of the info about obama is BS that is cut and pasted on hear from a silly smear site. I literally found a site that said that McCain had relations with farm animals, but I am smart enough to know it is BS. Anyway, I think Id like England or somewhere else because the only people who Ive seen reply with any intellegence is either from the UK, India, or Canada. Its an erie pattern. Obama didnt jusk squeak out a victory, he won definatively.

If Obama gets rid of the damn bcs gets a real play off system. Then he will be OK by me.
"every one equal" "equally poor" isn't that the socialist/democrate thinking. don't get me wrong I'm not a republican. I don't like either of the big parties. If I have to be identified to one party it would be Libritarian. lower taxes because of less government, government not in my buisness, government not in other's buisness, criminals paying restitution for crimes, laws not bassed on morality (I am a christian but I don't think you can legislate morality, it's not my place or my governments to judge victimless crime. ie weed, I have never heard or a dope smoker getting high beating his wife.) a sin is a sin. but law is law. Don't take my liberty because you feel I'm doing the wrong thing.
some of you guys are so paranoid it just amazes me. the man has not even been sworn in yet nor has he alluded to any of the changes you guys are spouting. we are just now getting rid of the worst president in American history and yes he is a republican and yes he is from Texas. bush was into alcohol and drugs, bush went AWOL from the military, Bush took a terrible situation (9/11) and made it worse. how? by faking docs and reasons, lying to congress and the American people to get us into a illegal war in Iraq. bush has ruined pretty much everything he has touched in public and private life. one has to go back to the great depression to see our country be in such bad shape as we are now. but instead of talking about how Obama is going to turn this all around some of you guys are just spouting crap about gun control. there are more important issues right now. i am confident president Obama will turn this country around and we will get through this rough time that bush put us in. i mean bush is such a bad president that he has not only frigged up America but he is taking the world down with him. history will not be kind to him and i don't think it should.
Im only going to say this one time. No arguing. I would kill to see what half of the bush bashers wouldve done in his place. IF they could have handled everything. There is so much going around about bush did this, bush did that. Wheres the proof. Have you physically seen it? until then, its he said she said. The media is biased. They air and print what sells. And to a Bush bashing country of people that voted for him, thats shaZam! about bush's shortcomings. I bet half the US populous doesnt even know what russia is doing right now as far as manuevering their forces around to thier western border, gearing up for a demonstration of force against the US by sailign a fleet of Thier Navy ships to Venuzuela to prove they can make to our coast. Hmm betcha they dont know that. Obama is comign in, thats all that matters. :bs:
Bush and the US and her allies were bull baited into a conflict. End of discussion. Say what you must. But I wont respond. Peace out Homies :icon_mrgreen:
no end of discussion. what conflict do you mean by bull bated? and what allies? also bush only got a marginal victory so his wins were minuet compared to obama's, so to say we supported him is incorrect. you also mention proof but i am not sure what you want proof of? it is common knowledge he lied to congress. he also had his cronies doctor documents. of course much of it is not his fault, i do agree with that. because he is too stupid to figure out a conspiracy at that level. Russia is a concern. only because we are so weak right now because of Iraq. besides why is that permanent? we are stretched so thin that other countries feel that they can push their luck. i don't think the media is biased that is just what the right wing republicans say when the media does not "tow the line". but i am sure that history will show bush to be what the country and most of the world already knows it that he is/was the worst president ever. how will Obama do? who knows. but he can't do worse than bush.
threadjack anyone??
Some of you stupid sonsofbitches just "don't get it". Right now approx. half of your paycheck goes to taxes (counting ALL TAXES, with very little representation, little to show in the way of infrastructure repair, laughing stock of the world in education, policing the planet, and giving to dictators that butcher people and loaning to countries that cannot possibly pay it back......and this goes on year after year).
When will you've had enough? The literal army of psychologists that aid in your mass hypnosis working for the news media have trained you well over the last 35 years (at least 35 years, more like 40). You are like sheep, thus the term "sheeple". There are literally those of you that would give "the government" ALL of your check without a whimper. There are those of you that if the "Television said the Government" wanted you to line up on your driveways so that the Community red hot poker could be stuck up your ass because it has been determined by "a committee" that it'd be good for you, I honestly believe a majority of you would be at the end of the drive with your pants down waiting to receive it.
We really need to DEMAND to KNOW where ALL of our tax money goes. ALL of it. Here's what I want. I want it mandatory that no taxes be taken out of your check.......BUT........YOU MUST mail in or via debit card (their preferred way) your taxes each month. That way you'd see how much you are being "taken to the cleaners". They won't allow that. Know why? Because they'd be dragged from their homes by the Citizens. They know this. So all this is done little by little. Kinda like the frog sitting in a pot on top of a stove with the heat turned up slowly so that he doesn't notice it until he is dead.
I can't believe how brainwashed some people are. Honest to God they act as if they are in a sleepwalking state. Yeah........Mommie and Daddy Big Government will "know what to do" and "take care of us". A lot of you better start getting acclimated to using a rifle/handgun and learning how to grow vegetables. You may need those skills one day to be able to eat or God forbid anything else.
Our Country is turning into (slowly but surely) into a 2nd rate country.........and later to be sheer chaos. Prepare yourself. Why can't you see it? That is what is so baffling to me. Yeah. Really. It is baffling.
yes well what have you done for your country? your so critical have you stepped up to the plate or just sit back and whine like a baby.
I have kept up "my" Country's communication systems and power grid system for more than 3/4 of YOUR lifespan here on earth.
Do you enjoy communications and electricity? Thank you.
wow i bet u got a medal too...oh those a beer tabs. your posts are full of bile and hate. for someone who has not been here that long you certainly know how to run your mouth off. i went back and looked at your posts. they are arrogant, stupid, racist, and just plain obnoxious. well not all but many. you need to calm down and stop with the negativity. if you feel this "need" to let the people know what is wrong with America do it somewhere else. we can have decent conversions and disagree..that is America. but just mellow out a bit and ease up on the name calling ...please ;)
OK......deal........."you" "ease up too"........ :)
psst.........Frank, I've been here longer than this forum..........I was on the "old forum".........I have been here since it's inception. I have been here longer than most all of the moderators.
Hugs.

Sorry man I stopped reading your post after that line. Anyone that still spews the 'Obama is a muslim we can't trust him' line is well....slightly smarter than retarded.

well obama said he is a christian, that for me is good enough. basically saying i wont doubt him. if he is, or if he is not. that is between him and god. and we ALL can get away from tehname calling. we are ALL guilty of it at some point here in this forum
any religion is just nuts anyhow. i mean the tooth fairy and Santa Claus are in the same line of folk lore as religion. i find the armchair quarterback to be silly at best and scary at worst. they have not served a day in the military or belonged to a party let alone stood up for election. but they spout off their lips like we should give a shaZam! about what they are talking about. i know serving in the military is not for everyone and the same can be said for those who stand for election. there are a finite few of us that do both. i personally find offense to those who's mouth is their largest organ. they spout falsehoods that they just made up in their heads or with other rednecks with limited intellect and education. everyone is allowed, by law, to their opinion and so am i. these same people believe the world or country is heading to disaster so they think by buying firearms they are preparing themselves. nothing could be farther from the truth. to ensure this does not happen then you need to get some practical experience. get involved in politics, you don't have to run in an election but be involved. it is your country so have a say in how it is run, i am sure you have allot to offer. i do believe there will come a time when this country is going to implode. it may not be in 10 years, 100 years or 1000 but it will happen. i suspect the same couch potato, arm chair athletes we have now will be there then. doing nothing to help resolve the problem. but they will be mouthing off believing they have a right to be heard. if it comes to that i shall see those that do not contribute as a "problem" and they will be dealt with. all the guns you keep will not save you from a properly trained soldier with a properly trained commander. i have little respect for those people.
Wow Frankie. I didn't know that in America, having an opinion was seen as a "problem"
So much for that fundamental right that we are supposed to have.
Are you saying that if someone doesn't agree with you, that you will take them out?
Just want to be clear about what you just said.

Well frankie, obama hasnt spent a day in teh military either. yet you support him  and now you think anyone with religion, is a redneck with limited intellect or education. Eh? well obama is religious as well. does he fall into that description? you afterall, know all , so it MUST be true. frankie there is no need for the name calling nor the unjust labelling. if you dont agree, then dont aree. no need for that shaZam! now
I think the whole Muslim thing was cleared up when the media noticed he wasn't sticking his face in a rug 5 times a day....I think religion is largely a bunch of swindling organizers that have found a way to convince the teeming masses to give them money, but I don't hold religion against anyone- if somebody wants to believe in Jesus, Buddah, Alah, or any of those others that's fine by me until they start killing people in their name then it's a big effing problem. More people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason- Hitler was likely the worst guy ever, but far more people, mostly muslim, were killed in the crusades than world war 2- in the name of Jesus.
I really dont feel brainwashed. Maybe Im also brainwashed to think im not brainwashed??
I was having a conversation with a guy at school today and I mentioned that I thought that money to help with college loans for doing community service was a good idea. Well, I was told by this republican friend of mine that educating more people will increase unemployment, increase taxes, and bankrupt the country. I tried to explain that putting money into education will over time lower to amount of taxes needed for many social programs such as prisons. Of course their were excuses of why I was wrong to go with every point I made. It seems like education is getting overlooked as a viable solution to issues. I am happy to pay more taxes to help education.
I believe that being against education is nuts. McCain's entire campaign counted on being able to brainwash people. Unfortunately for him, it only worked on 43% of the country.
that is so full of oh my goodness it aint funny. i am not brainwashed, i am educated. etc etc etc, and to beat all im not liberal. one could also say that obamas campaign counted on teh same thing. and he succeeeded. you see how bogus that is?
sorry if i got carried away ;) i am sure our new president will do well. but he has one hell of a mess to inherit from the worst president ever. i have subscriptions to Newsweek, time and the wall st journal. i can barely read them without wanting to cry. same as watching cable news such as fox, cnn and msnbc, every day there is more bad financial news. lil george got a country that was in great shape, not just in foreign policy but our economy was strong, growth was strong and everyone was happy and making money. 9/11 changed all that. in one morning our country and the world changed. america had support from the whole world with the exception of the few that supported terrorism. 9/11 hit our economy but it rebounded quickly. we went into Afghanistan with the world behind us and many of our allies on the front line with us. we were not just avenging what happened to us on 9/11 but we were ridding the world of evil. but then lil George f%&ked it all up. he took us into iraq. then he started lowering taxes and increasing the debt. why? we needed that money more than ever to pay for the real war and the "letsmakeupfordaddy" war. we all remember the "mission accomplished" sign. not only did he lose the support from our allies that we had from 9/11 but he started and illegal war that we could not afford monetarily and on the world stage. he kept giving out tax breaks when companies were making record profits. he let the financial institutions give money willy nilly so people with poor credit could buy homes that were over priced and risked billions in the process. his solution? he told us to spend more money. where is the logic in that? there is none. the man is a idiot. he could not run a corporation let alone a country. no we have a chance to start over again. a new president, a new party, with new ideas. willing to do the hard work to mend fences, make the difficult financial decisions that will cause us to tighten our belts but help the country recover in the long run. so what do the right wingers say now? they misspell his name to make him look muslim or a terrorist. they say he is going to increase taxes(well ya how else are we going to get out of this) to pay off lil georgies mistakes. you are worried about your precious guns. well i don't even think Obama has gun control on his radar right now. we all need to work together to get through this. we just got rid of a president who was a master at making bad choices to divide people. it is time to come together and recover from lil george...the worst president ever.
post after post, you rant about how bad bush was and what he did wrong. don't forget, during his 8 years in office the senate and house had democratic majority. so you can't say it was all the republican party/bush's fault. they are ALL to blame. of course obama will look great, he won't have anywhere near the party resistance that bush did. no matter what he does, he will look good, for a time anyways. just as no one man is responsible for this mess we are in, no one man can fix it either.
the democratic majority only came two years ago and push used the veto. it is bush's fault all of it. he was a terrible officer who went AWOL, he was a terrible CEO who ruined his company and he is the worst president in american history. you don't have to believe me history will tell it as it is.
Frankie, here's the problem.
As a liberal, you are convinced that Bush is the worst thing that ever happened to the USA.
As a conservative, I disagree with you.
You keep saying that we need to come together and work things out. However, you keep insulting the President of the USA.
Maybe he was bad. But I think any man in that position does the best he can. Looking back, it's easy to say where all the mistakes were.
I don't agree with almost all of what President Elect Obama believes in. But I respect him as the new President and hope he does an excellent job.
I guess that's the difference between us. If someone doesn't believe that same as you, you attack on a personal level.
I doubt that if McCain would have won you would have wished him well.
I hope I'm wrong about you, but you past posts lead me to believe that you wouldn't respect the outcome of the election if it had gone the other way.
You are right, it will take both sides working together to get us out of this. But working together means having respect for the beliefs of others even when you don't agree. I don't get the feeling that you respect anyone unless they go along with what you say.
Again, I hope I'm wrong. But the flavor of you posts don't suggest that.
It's ok to argue ideology but the personal stuff has to stop.

well put...i agree
Wow, you mean we will ALL try and get along here. even though we will disagree. if thats the case. then im in and e-beers on the house.  err for the house that is. but no e-nookies :kiss3:, cause that would be kinda E-ghey
Ok Yama. I'm not sure I understand but I'll go for the E-beers.
I think we can all agree that the past is water under the bridge and although it feels good to point fingers, that doesn't get the job done.
I know some of you don't believe in God, But believe me, I'm praying for my country and for our new President. I hope he does a GREAT job.
Otherwise. we are ALL going to lose in a big way.
BeSafe guys.
