Title: More teeth or less?
Post by: TheDrunknmonky on November 11, 2008, 10:41:15 AM
I want to get more umph off the line than i do.  I'm looking into jets and exhaust, but was wondering about sprocket size.  If I'm going to change them out should i go bigger or smaller?

Smaller in the front and/or bigger in the rear for more umph.

I went down one in the front and it made a MUCH bigger difference than you will get from an exhaust, jets and filter combined.

You deff can feel the difference 100% it was like a new bike for me. It seems that the GS is happy too  :icon_mrgreen: Like it should have been that way to start  :thumb:

15T front sprocket is the way to go!

I am also running a 15T up front, I plan on grabbing a 14 to play with at some point.  Next time I order stuff online I think.

iirc 70 mph is 7,000 rpm on mine, stock rear, 15t front 120/70/17 rear (or whatever is stock) something like that.

it's really not noticable once moving, just that little bit off the line. :)

70 MPH real or 70mph on the crap speedo?

I know that 7000 RPMS = 85 on the speedo(for me) = about 78MPH.  Standard cruising speed for a few miles of my commute.

i don't have a gps yet, so the speedo is what i go by. knowing there is a 10% error on the speedo means i have 10% more play time before I get illegal. :)

cool thing about old, mechanical, front wheel fed speedo's is yoyu can change all kinds of stuff on the rear and it won't effect the reading. :)

so at freeway speeds how much higher will i be revving?  would i be better off keeping front stock and changing rear to 45t?  will the higher revs cause quicker wear on the motor?

if you go smaller in the front and  bigger in the rear you will loose some top end speed.
