Title: issue with 98 ford expidition
Post by: mach1 on November 12, 2008, 04:32:49 PM
So my mom has been having problems intermittently when she turns left into a parking stall and she engages the brake pedal she has no action then she presses it again and the brakes work fine. this only happens on a left hand turn into a stall.

vacuum line, it's getting kinked or the master cylinder is shot. either way, need to get a handle on that QUICK !

could also be a brake line. hitting crap on the road does all kinds of wild , unimaginable things to the under-carriage.

Did she have the brake pad replaced ?
If the caliper was not put on right the brake line may be twisted and when she turns left it gets kinked.

pads were replaced a few months ago. i didn't happen before that. i guess ill go check it out tomorrow. I was supposed to replace the front for her along with the rear but i didn't have my torx socket with it was at work so she had a shop do the front and i did the rear, i hate shops after working in one for years you see some shoddy mechanics and most come from UTI an places like that.

Yeah, Thats where I would start.
Brake lines can be real funny if the caliper gets twisted around and put back on like that.

maybe it's just because it's a ford.           sorry...really..i couldn't help it.      you're sure it only happens when turning left and braking at the same time?   not trying to say you're a moron or anything, just clarifying   :thumb:

yup and its a fault in the ABS system my mom had a picture covering the Tach and once I took it for a spin I moved the pic and boom ABS light on. I just told her to take it to a shop and have them use their scanner to find the problem.

after a few tries of replacing an abs master cylinder on a chevy, we fixed it. the master cylinders were $600 each, and it was a warranteed repair. how did we fix it you ask ?

yup i had a suburban which would do htat. it would apply ONE brake cylinder err one wheel, at random times. ( abs unit went out ) i afro-engineered a non abs unit onto it. doing away with abs, yes, but it fixed it. and it continues to drive to this day
