Title: engine oil
Post by: tt_four on September 15, 2003, 09:40:09 PM
i need to get oil for my girlfriends bike tomorrow morning, but she doesn't have an owners manual, and i checked yesterday to see what it said on the plug where you fill it, i remember it's 10w-something, but i don't remember the second number, and she's already asleep, any of you guys know off the top of your head? thanks...

oooh, and while i'm at it, any of you guys ever changed your fork seals yourself? how much work is that, she definately needs a new while, and a bit more oil in there by now, but i wasn't sure how much work it was, she does have a repair manual, so it should be accomplishable,

stock is 10W40...

I use castrol GTX, some ppl use Shell Rotella .. it takes 3 qt's for full oil and filter change.

Depending on mileage (high mileage) full synth may not be a good idea (might have leaks).

As for forks being soft if she doesnt have progressive suspensions up front then you might want to try that. Stock is 10W weight fork oil, .. YOu can drain that by several ways, but the best is to take teh forks off and drain by drain hole.

Should be 10w40 oil.

Fork seals arent that bad as I've been told but do a search on here for tips and tricks on taking the forks apart and putting them back together as there are some things that can make it much easier.
