Title: Bike Problems - Can anyone help ?
Post by: brooklyn_93 on November 16, 2008, 04:43:36 PM
So I finally did my engine swap and got my 96 gs500e running great ... now im having another type of problem. Seems like this bike loves giving me problems.
It wont stay running.
I boost / jump start the bike and it starts ,i can leave it in the same spot running for an hour and everything seems ok, then  i ride down the road maybe 1 to 1.5 miles and it dies on me , loses power ( lights go dim etc ) then wont start w/o a jump start. Sound like a battery issue or a stator issue to yall or something else ? Its driving me crazy ! Any advise/info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Jay

How old is the battery?
Have you had the battery load tested?

You can test the charging system by following the HOW TO steps in this FAQ: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=38480.0

edit: is this the same bike that you have listed For Sale?

you have a charging system issue.  multimeter test across the positive/negative terminals of your battery with the bike running.   you should read 13.5V @ 3000-4500ish rpm if your system is healthy.  if not check your stator first, confirm you dont have goats disease, then the regulator/rectifier.
