....Well it did. I experience a slight loss of power (kindda felt like i was in too high gear) then progressively loss more and more power over about a 20 sec until the back wheel locked and the engine completely stopped. Is the motor shot??

I have a spare motor that have a bad counter balancer and a cracked engine case. Would that be of use?

Did it have the proper oil level?
What did the oil on the dipstick look like?
Did it make any noises as it was dying?
Will it roll in neutral?
Will the starter crank it?

-I beleive the oil may have been a little low considering the head gasket leaks slightly.

-Dark, but didn't look like anything out of the ordinary.

You are going to have to tear the engine all the way down to find out what is wrong, anything else is just a guess.
If you are "lucky" you siezed a piston (unlikely) and can use the cylinders and pistons from that bad motor.
The more likely scenario is that you spun and siezed either the big end or main crank bearings. If you are somewhat less lucky, you will be able to save the cases, and just get a new crank (might be able to use the one out of the other one) & bearings.
Any which way, it's not going to be cheap...

You can seize a piston and have the wrist pin tear out and the rod slam into the cases ruining both the case and the cylinder.
Not that I would know what that looks like or anything. :o

I may actually do that. But it may be more trouble to tear it down than it's worth. I may just sell it on ebay. It's got a clear title, only 800miles on the new Avon Tires, GIX 750 shock, new paint, and more.... I can probably get $600 for it and save me the labor of having to tear it down.
Option 2:
I know I can probably get another engine for $300-400 and just hank the bad one out and keep it.
I am very attached to the bike, having done so much to it and it beeing my 1st bike. I may just buy another bike and keep the GS and fix it up as a project. I'd love to still have my 1st bike when I'm an old man.

Maybe hes hording bike parts in an effort to build the ultimate GS monster! capable of push button belt drive and 16 inch rim reduction!!! Crazy stuff! Also, if tires were indeed plastic-hard.. they would last forever!

I have 10 bikes...they all serve a different purpose...The GS is by far my favorite and my #1 choice for any short drive...under 50 miles.
The Eliminators (2 1000's and 1 900) are straight line bikes...no handling, no brakes.
The vulcan 750 is a serious cruiser and long rides on it are good if I am in no hurry to get there.
The KZ440 and Virago 535 are also short distance commuter bikes and the 535 was for my wife. It probably is the easiest bike to make crash resistant. The 440 has belt drive and makes a great cheapo commuter.
The nitehawk 650 was a deal I couldn't refuse...and its for sale.
The GSXR 1100 is probably going to be my run to starbicks bike If I could ever tolerate starbucks...well I could run to Sam's Mart and I love their coffee so we good there...Its a project anyway...
Anyway most of these are for sale...2 of the eli's, the vulcan, virago, 1 of GS'es and the nitehawk...Then I decide what else...Maybe the KZ too
I also have a convertible 69 beetle...Fun with the wife and son???

OK SER....How far from say Charlotte (I should know cos I drove through Tennessee last year but it was all at night when I was propped up only by my wife's complaining - she was 4 months pregnant at that time so justified)...
KZ 440 is an air cooled 2 cyl predessor to the 454 ltd and 500 vulcan and lawson probably would have out run it on his schwinn...
The 900 eli is a great handler compared to the 1000...10% more rotating mass, 10% more torque and 10% more weight with the same running gear and geometry. Pathetic...
The GSXR has been out of my hands for so long while my friend is doing a 750 frame transplant...I dont even know what to do with it...but It may prompt me to sell the other eli as well...I might get a 600 eli instead...That seems to be right on par with my vulcan in terms of handling and I can live with that. In fact the vulcan and bigger elis share a lot of things and have similar geometries and weights but the vulcan handles 1000% better....

Nitehawks...2 for $300...One titled and one without...The title one has to be partly re assembled. Just carbs and tail section...Well I'll re assemble carbs if you want... Tail...you gotta do that. A dent in tank is all it has for flaws...and the other one has a good un dented tank that just needs paint. That is actually a full on parts bike...with oodles of rust.
