I'm considering getting another bike since my GS is probably dead...
Another issue that I have to consider is the insurance on the bike. I have friends that are pay over $200/mo. for full-coverage on their super sport bike. There's no way I can pay that much.
Is there a list where you can compare ins. cost on each bike?
go to pregressive.com or gieco.com and put in the bikes. Its usually by bike displacement and type of bike.
bandit 400/600. SV, GS, ZR-7, Seca-II, etc are all cheap. Basically any 'standard' or inexpensive, non-cutting-edge tech bike that displaces around 600cc is good. That's not to say you can't get good quotes on the big boys like the ZRX, Bandit12, or 919.

You're right about every one of them except the SV650. That was gonna cost me about $1800/yr. That's more than the bandit 1200! I guess that SV650 is on "the list"
try a different company. whoever gave you that quote clearly thinkis the SV is a "crotch rocket". Other companies haven't decided to label them as such. yet.
The KZ440 seems to be the best of the ones I have... of course an 81 CM400 is prolly better...
Cool.

for the best rates stay at 500cc or under. once you go over 500cc the rates go up.
Here in Canada, some companies go by CC's, and some go by classification....dual-purpose, touring, sport, etc...
I checked into insurance on an SV650, and a VTR1000....they were the same, because my insurance company goes by CC... [0-500, 501-1000, 1000 +]...
A Busa would be $3000/yr. BUT. There are companies that classify the BUSA as a sport touring bike, rather than a 1300 CC death-rocket., making the insurance less for it than for say a GSX-R 1000. Best advice is to look around. EVERYWHERE.
My insurance company is the same.
I can get the same quote for a 750 nighthawk as for a GSXR 1000.
Pretty stupid, but I don't complaing if I've got the GSXR, only for the nighthawk.
State Farm goes strictly by displacement too... It's not 100% fair but it's the fairest method I've come across....
Allstate Blows.
Import a 400cc Jap Superbike..make that two cause I want one too while your at it. Then go to a insurance company that insures by displacement. Best bike for the money spent on insurance.
