Title: New tail plastics on old bike?
Post by: jdw03n on December 03, 2008, 12:14:39 PM
Anyone done the swap-over to the 2000 era tail plastics on a 90s GS?  If so, does the installation require some fabrication, or are they direct bolt?  Pros and cons of doing this? I'm considering this for my next mod.

Here's one! (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=39576.0)

Works great, looks great.  Don't know the cons, as I didn't do the work.  Not a direct bolt-on, this much I know.

Good question. I want to know too. I want to know if you can use your old gas tank too.

New brackets would have to be made for the plastics (IIRC 6 of them) and the brake light. On the 97 I built, I cut the brackets from a 04 sub-frame and welded them in place. The grab handle mount is higher but the handle is the same.

The 89-00 tank will not work with the 01+ seat, unless the seat is modified.

There have been a lot of threads on this topic.
