Title: Twin Undertail true duel exhaust
Post by: Mdow on December 05, 2008, 06:10:54 PM
Yes i know don't even start about saying it will not work.  im going to be getting an exhaust pipe bender here in the next month because of other projects and since ill be working on the bike im going to really do some messureing and planing tomarow when working on the bike.

the plan is make pipes that will well onto the front down pipes on stock exhaust so that people can just weld them on.  and really not sure that increasing your pipe size slighty with out enlarging the heads really helps anyway.

so what i need is to fine small affordable mufflers.

and if i get a system to work maybe make 1-10 more systems for members

so anybady know a good source for small im thinkin ATV mufflers?

(pics will be updated for sure when work starts)

Sounds kinda cool. You should make them slip on, right under the right side rearset so you can just clamp them on.

I know FMF makes a TON of small mufflers for all sorts of bikes, but nothing too attractive. Check out some moped shops online... I think www.mopedwarehouse.com or www.1977mopeds.com may carry a sort of 'make it yourself' muffler kit with expansion chambers, they sell the silencers seperately so you can weld them on yourself. The canisters are probably 3-4" in diameter and run about 8-9 inches long with an exhaust hole about 1 inch.

May be too restrictive for what you're trying for but that's the smallest I've seen.

Thats pretty close to what I wanted to do. I did some searching arround. Didnt find much. Here is what I did find:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=200271320569
The problem with those is they are chrome.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dynomax-24210-Magnum-Glasspack-Muffler-In-Out-1-3-4_W0QQitemZ200278280032QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOther_Vehicle_Parts?_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116
These are 1 3/4 inch which is a little bit big. It might work.

The header pipes are somthing like 35mm outside diameter. Which is about 1.377 inches. about the perfect size for slipping a 1.5" tube over.
Anyway... hope that helps some.

Dual undertail exhausts eh?

I am going to resist all temptation and NOT say it cant be done......instead I am going to give you a tip that some custom exhaust builders use........ Before throwing your time, effort and cash on this go and buy say..... 6ft of 1.75" flexible PVC (or similar) hose and some cable-ties......can you see where this suggestion is going?

Making it is easy, routing it through the frame and past the suspension is the hard part. BTW dont forget where your legs go.

Ahh...  The hose trick!

Once you have the flexible tubing mockup just how you like it, fill it with Plaster of Paris.  Then, gently cut it into suitable sections with a hacksaw.  Use the sections as a pattern to guide your bending work.

(Giving away too many secrets here...)

I thought he did say (emphasis added):

She's a 96 model, bought her in 2004 for $1600. Bought the the Aluizio GS500R kit from Brazil for $800 not including shipping. It included the tail piece with a cowl and a passenger seat, rider's seat, front lower and upper fairing, headlight, windscreen, undertail exhaust with two ATV carbon fiber mufflers and modfied clipons. I got a major discount on shipping, practically free since I was purchasing a prototype and promise to write a review for them.

Since then I've gotten rid of the underatil exhaust and kept the mufflers to do an underbelly exhaust setup.

It seems the mufflers are part of the Aluizio kit  :dunno_white:

I think this is their website: http://www.mmotos.com/

I bet any aftermarket atv/dirtbike store will have loads of slip on atv exhausts, might not be the exact model as pictured but should serve the same purpose.

I've actually been searching for somthing like that for awhile... The problem is I cant ever find anything decent under $2-300 plus I want 2. $400-600 is not worth it to me. Honestly I think im going to end up making my own setup.

after mesuring it might be posible if you cut off the rear pegs cause the chain takes up more space then i thought. so twin pipes is a NO go with rear pegs and after finding lower compression numbers then i would have liked to see single undertail is going to be postpond anyway

check eBay. you can often findl dual exhaust for good prices. sometimes they are little scratched but I guess it wouldn't matter cause you want to hide it under the seat, right?

good luck!
