Title: So long GS....
Post by: bikejunkie223 on December 06, 2008, 08:22:22 AM
Dear GS500,
I know we have only been together a short while and while we have had a lot of fun, and I have grown tremendously since I met you, I sadly have found another. I thought we would be together for a long time, but hadn't planned on finding a new love so soon. I guess we can't plan out decisions of the heart. I'm sure you will find someone new who will love you just as much as me,  but I have to move on. Thank you- you will always be my first. You can't be mad- here is a pic of my next motorcycle:

Now really when I stumbled across this in the shop brand new for $9k I just couldn't accept some of your idiosyncrasies any longer. I just need a larger windsheild to protect me from the torrential rain and fuel injection to make start-ups a breeze and warm-up time a thing of the past. I will always remember you fondly but I have to move on. I'm sorry

I REALLY wish they'd made that edition of the VFR with RC51 suspension....

I wouldn't be sorry if I were you; although I noticed your hint of sarcasm.  I don't think anyone here is emotionally bonded to their GS, and most people here including myself will get a newer bike sooner or later. So congrats on the nice ride--personally, I just hate honda, I don't really know why :dunno_white:.

Here's what I eventually want sometime along the line:

I have only ridden it across town to get home so far and it is a bit intimidating considering what a noob I am. I mean I have only been riding since May (though I logged 5800 miles in all weather since then). It is a much heavier bike, but the transmission is like melted butter- so smooth. Also, adjustable levers for my tiny girlie hands are really really nice. I haven't really got on the throttle get and can tell it is packing some serious muscle. And that is without revving it into VTEC yet. It's a bit scary so far and I have massive respect for what it is capable of and am glad I'm not any younger because i definitely wasn't mature enough to be near anything like it 5 years ago without ending up in the hospital or jail. The new bike is one with ABS and was brand new (3 miles) I picked it up for $9k exactly. I planned on getting more experience with the GS but just couldn't bear to pass up this bike. I looked long and hard at the Yamaha FZ6 but during my investigation I discovered my insurance company wanted $20 a month more to insure it than the VFR (?!) so it basically amounted to $20 a month overall (higher bike payment) more for the Honda than the Yamaha, and given I am a wh0re for Hondas anyway (master technician on cars) that's where i went. I t has made my pants seriously tight, and my butt pucker a bit. I'm excited to begin my long life with it.

Still gonna be on this board all the time- I like you guys!

Until I find a newer, hotter, more powerful forum anyway :thumb:

I'm not going anywhere- and I plan on riding that bike every day as long as there is no snow, ice, or chance of imminent death due to weather. rain is fine by me. ABS should be nice for that.

Congrats. What year is it? You have to be in a very specific frame of mind before you use all that power... :icon_twisted: good luck bro. I too just picked up a little somethin' (gsxr750). Here it is, next to it's little brother.

Grats on the viffer :thumb: buddy of mine bought one in the spring. The 6th generation vtec motor has a much more docile transition about the 6500k rpm mark than the previous 5th gen did, not quite the overpowering kick in the ass the 5th gen had it was like flipping a light switch, docile to snarling beast in .01 seconds. The V4 has a sweet tone. My last viffer was a 1987 750 I bought used in 88. It only seems scary right now, that will pass, it's front heavy enough that you have to be pretty deliberate to get the front wheel off the ground. I just wish they would do the V4 in a more pure sports oriented chassis and suspension and go back to the roots of the VFR as a open class superbike. Get used to alot a frame and radiator heat though theyreally really heat up the inner thighs, and it'll run hotter than you expect normal temp seems to be int he 225 to 245 or 55 ramge.

I've already started getting used to it- and man does it sounds good when it goes into VTEC. The cars sound good when they do it but they have nothing on the deep snarl of this bike. The gearing is interesting too- It seems they gave it gears to do 150mph+ because you could easily hit 60 in first gear. The engine is strong enough I found myself a couple times over the last couple days cruising on 4 lane avenue @ 50mph and realized I was in 3rd or 4th. I think I'm in love. :icon_mrgreen:

800cc v-4 with VTEC (opens extra valves at higher rpm's) I think the reviews I have read put the bike at peaking at 107hp. That's a scootch more than the GS. Very manageable though. and sounds nasty good. I'm in love.

Yea, that's what I said before I got the keys. But soon you'll find yourself on that lonely entrance ramp and think to yourself, "I wonder what would happen if I just blipped the throttle a little bit..." and then   :icon_eek: Funny when you crap your pants and smile at the same time.
Glad you still stick to your roots though. The GS is still the mc from the block, that's for sure.

There is no better motorcycle to learn on than the GS, and it's a good commuter- not as good as my VFR but good. I don't have any complaints really about the GS it has the disadvantage of being a $4k motorcycle and now I'm on a $13k motorcycle- it doesn't really compare but that doesn't mean I didn't love it while I had it- and now some other person can snag a GS that already has a mudflap-ectomy and shortened turn signal stalks! That reminds me I gotta make a post to sell the '89 clip-ons I have since I put the stock bars back on it before trading her in....
