Post by: yamahonkawazuki on December 10, 2008, 08:29:23 PM
Well, lmao today was lovely, i, im waiting to merge onto roadway, i wait for lights to pass, anyhoo i see an opening, i go for it. all of a sudden grandma comes along in a toyota minivan, WITHOUT her lights on, and clobbers the front of my chevy ( 1986 full size aka a tank lol, and destroys the front end) ive got witnesses to say she was driving without headlights, ( 9:30pm), now i gotta find out if im at fault or not >:( >:( , and im car less  destroyed a full size truck, and the toyota was drivable as was the chevy but chevy's frame is bent  quite visably

Law requires (in TX) that headlights be on at or before 30 minutes past dusk...it's shady, though, and increment weather and road conditions are always ways to screw with it but it would be in your favor if any.  Look up the official time of sunset in your zip code and compare to when the accident happened according to the police report.

Of course, even though it has proper citations, I can't confirm the information because Tennessee's department of public safety website was designed by retards.

you should be alright esp if with witnesses.  I was involved in a similar situation, It was dark drizzly and an old lady in a 80s big metal box Lincoln Towncar turned left on a red light, as i approched the intersection at the speed limit, 55.  My little saturn never stood a chance.  The old lady told the police that i ran a red light but the millions in the food lion parking lot next to the accident, where my car landed after dukes of hazarding thru the food lion sign ...

If not for those random people loading groceries that decided to help I would have been at fault, old lady was yelling at them to help her cause i hit her.

this one after turning on her lights, and then admitting they were off after two witnesses confirmed my story lol was apologising. profusely. my adrenaline rush ( best pk in the world btw) masked any anger/pain i had untli today lol jusut got back from er with more pk's and muscle relaxers yay anyhoo pics, ill get a shot of her van tomorrow hardly any damage. jsut a crumpled passenger fender her car was far more drivable than mine was . mine was jsu barely. i gotta bring the Buddha Loves You home tomorrow after i sledge the bumper up so it dont drag teh road. youll see that in teh following pics. and with teh bent frame, ( quite evident) it will dog track like a motherfucker. so new ( to me) truck/car whatever here i come im not going to be greedy. i jsut want something onteh level of what i had. a full size rwd pickup or a full size car. ive been offered the usage as long as needed of a saturn ion redline  :icon_twisted: from my friends car lot or from other friends  business, an 02 s500 or a newer lincoln continental. i think ill go for teh saturn. as much as i love driving the merc. anyhoo the pics

Yeah, that's pretty typical.  Had you had no witnesses you likely would have been hosed.  I agree that adrenaline is the best pk of all, it took me a half hour of waiting in my car, could not exit doors were jammed shut, to realize that my leg was severely broken and I had lost a substantial amount of blood (compound fracture).  Hopefully the lady that hit you has insurance, the one that got me didn't.

At least you weren't hurt worse, and i believe what you are saying about the minivan cause it looks like the frame and bumper on your truck took in most of the force, its hard to to that to a full sized PU.

Oh i know they will try to hose me on teh trucks value. being that its 22 years old. BTU im not greedy, BBUT i expect to have enough to purchase its repalcement. to be on par with it. so 500 wont cut it. for some reason, i keep that number in my head., i expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 to 1800, rtucks seem to hold value well.

Yeah, I'd say the van won that match! At least you got a nice interim ride. With car prices these days hopefully you can get something descent! I took off the dressing it looked pretty good only about two inches long, a little bit of swelling, and no bruising. Did go out in a friend's car today and bumps hurt like a mofo and seatbelts are a new form of torture device although the little shoulder pad helped. No one bothered to tell me when I can drive much less ride. I'm probably going to attempt to drive on Monday and will ask the surgeon on Friday when I can ride. I did go much of the day without the pain med but I mainly slept all dang day too! I've never had a hangover but that is the closest thing I can think of that this feels like. So, as long as she stays closed I will get along just fine.

I know how you feel with the flash backs. I get them every so often when someone stops suddenly in front of me. When I nailed the guy from behind it felt like an eternity before I hit and I clutched the stering wheel for dear life. How I herniated two disc in my back and then the shock went down my right wrist all the way into the shoulder. I still have tendonitis in the wrist esp riding for long periods it will flare up. But, the worse for me is when I am turning right. In 2000 I was riding my bicycle from work and was struck from behind by a car that came out of  a parking lot at 40 mph! I can't ride my bicycle on the road anymore. Scared to death and once in a while on my moto I will get that feeling and have to pull over esp if someone is tailgating me. Guess it is part of PTSD a traumatic event kinda just gets burned in the mind.

indeed NOW, dont be doin anyhting BEFORE your body will allow it. , cause im close enough to put a "whoopin " on you if you do. do what you have to do FIRST to heal up. then get back into  i guess youd call it normal life, as far as the car and bike goes.the belts, may i ask where hte incision is located onchest, if its between the " little girls" or thereabouts, they make a seatbelt thingie which relocates the shoulder belt part lower, and tehy make padded seatbelt covers. you can use more than one if need be. or if you must, then use JSUT thelower part. not sure on the legalities on that,  but im sure a LEO would understand if it came down to it :whisper:
Title: Re: SOnofaBuddha Loves You
Post by: Toogoofy317 on December 14, 2008, 02:22:49 AM
My incision is about two inches down from the collar bone right where the shoulder belt sits on my right shoulder (incidentially I'm right handed too). I do have one of those cushions on there that helped quite a bit and I had a good thick hoodie on that added a little extra padding. It's kinda funny now cause I got lumps in exactly the same part on each side of my chest. One for the port one for the defibrillator!

Like I said my biggest concern is stretching and such. I think I'd lose my mind if this incision opened up! I am guilty of overdoing it though and working very hard on not doing that. They actually wanted me to work today and Tuesday but I declined even though I desperately need the money! Another concern is that I apparently have a MRSA colony in my nares and they said there is a slight chance my incision could get infected if I breathe on it! You would think they would give me an antibiotic ointment or something. I guess I'm just paranoid because with me Murphy's law always applies.

But, it is nice to have good friend's like you who care! Please take care of yourself as well!

Yama,

Sorry to hear about all this.  Go get 'em at the insurance office tomorrow!  Accidents totally suck and dealing with insurance has to be the worst part.

I've been gone more than half of the last month for various things, including my sister-in-law's funeral 750 miles away...  So very little time to "correct" your politics lately  :icon_lol:  I'm sure you survived somehow.

Ohhh TG well be correcting each other im quite sure lol ( lookin forward to it. i love to battle over politics ), and btw sir, my condolences on your loss, and it was your wifes sister?, please send my prayers and condolences her way as well.  the other drivers insurance called em the next day. had a rental car the day after, but sonofabitch, i had to return that thing this evening. TBH did me no good to even have it. BUT that gives me more ammo for the battle. my truck i limped it to my place of employment, i live 3 blocks from that, BUT i can make 3 blocks last 30 minutes walking. So when they come tomorrow  to evaluate it, ill tell them of my displeasure, and since im in " pain" ( actually still am, but my friend mr. hydrocodone is helping ease that, and let them know of my displeasure with teh car. they offered it for up to a week, but the contract was due for return the 14th. so i took it back, if we cannot come to an agreement, tehy WILL provide another vehicle, had an 08 ford edge this time, well see whats next.  O0

Oh, what a fun day!

I can't believe you had to return the car. When someone decided to rip off my back bumper I had the rental car until it was fixed! Which was about two weeks! I would assume that would be the case as well or until you got the money for another vehicle. When my truck was totalled Progressive had my pay off sent to the lender with in the week! But, it depends on her insurance.

Well, I got my car back on the road with a nice roll of gorilla tape! I did three layers on the inside and three layers on the outside and it seems to be holding well. I had been using a sling until today. I guess my cabin fever got the best of me and now I'm paying for it! I'm really sore the area just above it is a bit red and now I got a temp of 99.6. I usually run about 97.3 ao it is a bit up for me. Guess I will give the surgeon's office a call tomorrow. I just feel exhauted and my chest feels as if I have a sunburn kinda warm but that weird hot feeling!

I did make it to church tonight and everyone had to come up behind me and pat me on the right shoulder! I have a very cool congregation and am glad God led me to them. Pastor even came to see me before surgery!  But, C'mon guys you know I just had surgery there!

Hope all gets better for you. And I have quite the ducktaped ghetto car now :icon_neutral:

had to return the 08 ford edge yesterday, and today they graciosuly al;lowed me to keep it until wed. im like Oh gee thanks, cept one f%$king problem, contract said return date 12/14/08, and well, today is 12/15/08, so they called enterprise, and enterprise called me, so now im driving an 09 pathfinder, 8k miles on it atm. but i hate htat thing. the ford felt short and fat, this thing is tall and skinny. i liked the ford better. BUT hell i cant keep either one. and whatever i end up buying will be nowhere near as nice as the two loaners. adn today at some point i head out to battle theinsurance adjsuter. and i wont settle for anythign less than enough to buy soimehting at least on par with what i had. a RUNNING and driving AND PAID for vehicle. im not expecting a new car. but hey if offered ill graciously accept  8), and now my main battle is fear and apprehension. cresting ahill sometimes scares the cripe out of me, or blind corners, or merging, etc. may have to well, get help on that if it dont improve  :embarrassed:

btw mary does your pontiac have those seatbelts which raise up or down, ( you know, on the b pillar?, it changes the angel, where the shoulder belt contacts the body?
Title: Re: SOnofaBuddha Loves You
Post by: Toogoofy317 on December 16, 2008, 01:19:51 AM
Nah, since I got the vert they are attached quite low where the windows go down into the side. Which unfortunately makes it go more toward my right where the surgery is. The seatbelt on the driver side is ok it is the passenger side that is oh my goodness! But, when I had to slam my brakes on when the idiot cut me off the force from deceleration paired with the belt locking yoooowza! Everything lunged forward and when my shoulder hit the seat the pain was sooo bad my vision faded a little and I had to stop. So yeah I'm definately not ready for the bike. The vibration alone sends tingles up my spine!

Have you spoken with the insurance company yet? Do you know who her insurance is? I know here in Florida you can have your insurance pay up front and then they will go after the other insurance carrier.

Just a thought,

Mary

well her insurance called me two days later, err noon on the 12th, this happened pm on the 10th, and admitted fault, that day i got rental. today i got the other one, and tomorrow i deal with their adjsuter., ive got one hydrocodone left, so either i take it now to kill ache or i save it and wait, so i dont go deal wiht them while not geeling well.. meh ill wait and take it enroute to war O0. lol sorry. forgot about it being a vert  :embarrassed:. although dagerous, id suggest , not using the shoulder belt, and placing it behind you. How is this complicated? Are they just trying to extend it out so you will get fed up and take what they give you? I know you won't do that. I just hope you don't have to get a lawyer involved but it may come down to it. Just love how the big insurance companies love to rip off the everyday man!

Get what you deserve! Also, with the pain issues your still having it's on them why not go back to the doctor so you can get a refill of meds?

almost returned to ER with severe muscle pain today 9 to 9.5 in severity on a scale of 10. but shaZam! takes on average 4 hours of doing that to get anywhere. i may instead make a healthe dept appointment and see what tehy can do ( plsu its only $5 to get seen.

You should go for a follow up at least. I know sitting in the ER sucks I end up having to do it about every other month thanks to the crapped out ticker. But, you gotta put your health first. Have you scoped out any ideas for a potential vehicle yet? That way as soon as the check is cut you can be ready to get the ride.

Also, I don't see why you can't go to an Emergent care clinic. I know down here they take auto insurance. Might be worth a try since the wait is usually a lot shorter then the ER.

Hopefully, things will go well and you can get the treatment you need.
