Title: Santa Clara Cycle Accessories is the best!
Post by: scratch on December 11, 2008, 08:12:31 PM
While coasting to a stoplight tonight, in the #3 lane (that's all the way to the left), my clutch cable went completely slack. Luckily, I was in neutral and since there was no cars coming I took the crosswalk into a parking lot to address the situation. I observed the cable at the lever, noting that it was connected, and slid smoothly with no resistance.

Hoping that the other end just came out of the clutch actuating arm, I broke out the stock toolkit from under the seat. I found that I didn't have an 8mm wrench or socket to remove the sprocket cover to look at the other end. Since I was on El Camino about 5-10 minutes away from my favorite m/c accessory shop (Santa Clara Cycle Accessories (408-730-0600)), I called to ask if they had a cable and could run it down to me with an 8mm socket and driver. Luckily, they did and Doug was able to get away from the shop to get them to me. Awesome, right?

As soon as Doug gets there I open it up to find that the clutch actuating arm is what's broke. Heavy sigh.

"Doug can I ask for a tow?"
"I'll call Rick." (calls) "We can borrow his truck."
"Great!"

As we're loading the bike, I manage to ram the ramp into Doug's knee, which I'm still trying to figure out a way to make it up to him (suggestions welcome).

All in all, these guys are great, I've had nothing but a great experience with them, and continue to be a loyal customer.

Thank you Doug and thank you Rick!

BTW, this was is the original clutch cable; 45,833 miles.

I cracked up when I read this, just something about people getting hurt loading bikes always makes me laugh. This one time we were loading dirtbikes in the back of a pickup truck. My step dad was walking down the 2x6 out of the bed of the truck, when he slips out, falls directly on his back and breaks the 2x6 in half! Oh man, I'm cracking up just thinking about it.

BTW, great experience you had there. I doubt my local shop would do that! Oh yeah, it's a dealer...definitely wouldn't.
