Title: 150 rear tyre with GSXR rim
Post by: Lukewarm Wilson on December 11, 2008, 08:49:14 PM
I have been looking through the posts about wider rim and tyre and can only find people asking about them can anyone actually tell me how the bike rides with the wider rim and tyre how has it effected the ride, does it change the steering at all does it make the front work harder and steer quicker.
Just wanting to know how it effects the bike any responses will be appreciated  :thumb:

its hard to say enless you run the same tire.

cause i switched from some crappy bias ply tires

to

bandit 400 rear wheel with Pilot powers

i think most of the change i saw was from the tire not the wider wheel i jsut couldn't fit it on the stock wheel

I just got a 150 Avon RoadRider installed on my GS rear end and aside from putting a little bend in the rear caliper bar it's a damn nice fit. There's no noticeable pinch in the tire and it fills the rear end up nicely. This is all on the stock rim.

What size GSXR rim and 150 tire are you talking about?  There are GSXR rims ranging from 4-6" wide and both 150/70 and 150/60 tires.  The current 5.5-6" GSXR rims are too wide for a 150 tire.

I'd maybe consider a wider 4" rim for a 150/60 tire but would and have just used the standard 3.5" rim for a 150/70 tire.  My bike rode and handled just fine with the 150/70 Lasertec and RoadAttack rear tires I've run on my oem rim.

I agree you'd notice more difference from the type of tire than you would from a half inch wheel width difference.

GSjack is right ... as always .  :D
The 150's fit perfect on a 4 inch bandit wheel and its a squeeze on the 3.5 stock. It does fit and doesn't create any issues.
4.5 inch needs 160 or so. That 160 will be too fat for all the rest in the GS back end.
The simplest and best swap that has all up side and no down side is the 4 inch bandit wheel. The 4.5's meeeh ... unless you wanna hack the rear end in 1/2 and run 160 or fatter.
Cool.

Just noticed from an earlier thread that Lukewarm Wilson is getting a 4.5" Gixxer wheel:

<<<Just a quick question I know the 400 bandit wheels will fit the GS but will a gsxr 88 j rear wheel fit with the same mods its 17inch and 4.5 wide I think it should but just need confirmation>>>

I found this link on wiki for the GSXR 4.5" rim thats what made me decide on it but have just noticed what it said about the differences between the 750 and the 1100 wheel with different amount of cush drive holes so will have to check the wheel to make sure it the right one. Here's hoping  :icon_rolleyes:
