OK The machinist called me...40 bucks each for 1/2 inch thick 6061 aluminum fork braces. The first set is coming in by this weekend.
I'll put up pics when I have them. 6061 can be polished real well as an added bonus unlike Aluminium mix I wanted him to use...he said some about that material not being in stock. Lemme know if anyone wants these...Evidently the discount for volume isn't much cos he has to make it by hand anyway. So just a little extra saving from material wastage.
Cool.

You know ,Srinath, I was just thinking (Yes...without a spotter again...)...
Would using two stock braces (drill holes in the bottom one and weld it to the top one..) be a big improvement over a single brace? ..Twice as strong or so....maybe...
Just thinking...
Just so you know seshadri_srinath I will be waiting for your pics! Very interested in possibly purchasing one if they work out.
1/2" seems really thick for this use, is that much bracing necessary? When you get them in, can you let us know how much do they weigh?
Stock fork braces are a joke. Had a fender bender with a truck that bent my forks and stripped a few of the bolts out from the brace.
Click on http://www.gstwin.com/racers_corner.htm and scroll to bottom of the page (last 2 pics) to see what I mean.
1/2 is about right...They make 3/8 for GSXR's so 1/2 is fine...nythicker is too much...
Cool.

Well 2 or 3 stockers may be good...never tried it...but in reality the fork holes in the stock are egged...and in mine they are not...They dont have the end holes at all the way they are being made...You find exactly where your holes should be with a piece of cardboard and drill just that and not a big egged hole. It is egged stock because it wont fit across many bikes due to loose tolerances. To fit it right you need to cardboard transfer. That would make the biggest difference. The stock is steel...and hence heavy...still the aluminum 1/2 inch will be a bit heavier than it but not a whole lot. Drill/mill a few big holes in it if the weight is a concern...wont compromise its rigidity really...strength in some cases will be a less but not its stiffness or some like that my teachers tried to teach me....
Cool.

srinath,
when yougind out prices sign me up. I think my fork brace may be part of my wobble problem

Yea I gotta run after the machinists and welders...I believe I am getting a first batch of 4-5. I need 1 and see what the response is like.
Thanks.
