I was just lusting over the Monster 620 at the Ducati website (which has been updated since last night), and it said that the new Monster 620 has a "Power Torque Clutch System". Does anybody know what that is?
Thanks.
Laura
I took this paragraph off this page from the Duc web site

This year's Monster 620 is the only motorcycle in the world to feature the revolutionary Power Torque Clutch system. PTC makes gear shifting a breeze and ensures minimal rear wheel patter, so you can safely and seamlessly go from comfortable city to more aggressive sports rides. And now, with 6 gears to get your revs from, the 620 guarantees real-world acceleration, responsiveness and fun no matter where your ride takes you.
The monster is a sweet looking bike but you get the maintanance costs/intervals that come with a Ducati. The 2 valve engines are supposed to be better and cheaper/easier to maintain so that makes it a little better. Can't beat that Ducati clatter though :)
man, i would love to get that bike next season. i just may, but yeah, those maintenance costs... ouch!
in reviews the SV has been considered a better value, but if you must have the name...
I've seen lots of women riding these though...they look pretty stretched out on them.
It's not the name, Pantablo, it's the look. I don't like the way the SV's look, especially the new ones.
haha. ditto. my roommate has the sv650 (nekkid). i dont really like the way it looks and funny enough, most of our friends like the gs better :thumb:
but, to each their own.

You're preaching to the choir Laura...My architectural sensibilities draws me to the naked, exposed trellis frame-quite a beautiful sight, but as a daily ride I'd get a monster 1000 before the 620...I read something like the 620 was too snatchy for a novice bike, yada yada...something like that-making the SV the better choice...but we all make exceptions for exclusivity and exotica...

If you're upgrading, I would consider getting a used Monster 750 instead. It is essentially the same bike but with the 750. It also is apparently slower than an SV still (M750 has 64 crank hp). Buying the used 750 will surely save on the cost because its been around for years and hasn't changed a whole lot. It was also offered in a Dark model but I would get the normal one for the dual discs and the red paint

It would have to be a "look" thing because if there was ever a bike that was under-performed and over-priced it would be a Ducati!!!
But you have to admit they are gorgeous looking motorcycles!

I test rode a Monster 600 Dark & a SV650S back in 2001. I much preferred the Monster over the SV650S (have not ridden a regular SV650 yet) even though it only had the single front disc. But the only thing I could compare them to was the GS, so the single disc wasn't a factor. I thought the brake pretty strong even with the single disc.
I would imagine the fuel injected 620 would be even better than the old Monster 600. Unfortunately the 620i Supersport is a tad too tall for me.

Oh come'on. The Ducs actually handle beautifully. Compared to a Harley, the performance to price ratio is great!
Sorry forgot about the Harley!
My mistake!
