Title: GPS goodies - poi, itn's, etc
Post by: ohgood on December 27, 2008, 04:17:13 AM
By now everyone (but me) knew you could send google map locations to your:

phone
email
gps

DId you know you can download POI's and ITN's from motorcycle groups ? THere are tons of poi's available for free just using a google search like "alabama waterfall poi". Download the poi's to your gps if it's already in your gps's poi format. If not, goto http://www.poieditor.com and change it to whatever extension your gps uses. PoiEditor is free also. :)

Good stuff, going to see some railroad tunnels and possibly a few waterfalls today weather permitting.

:)

Thanks for the link, ohgood.  Does anyone have suggestions for twisty road aggregators (i.e., http://www.motorcycleroads.com/).  I'm in Central Jersey and most of the fun riding is west in PA, but I'd love to find fun local roads (like one of my favorites by New Brunswick: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Elm+St&daddr=40.440154,-74.610901+to:Main+St%2FRoute+130%2FRT-27&hl=en&geocode=FaT-aQIdtvKN-w%3B%3BFdgSaAIdGnaN-w&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=12&via=1&sll=40.41428,-74.559059&sspn=0.193434,0.44632&ie=UTF8&ll=40.434666,-74.548416&spn=0.193376,0.44632&z=12).  In general, I look for water on Google Maps and see where it takes me.

I'm going to bookmark all your links - THanks !

As far as finding goood curvey roads, hit up your local old timers (BMW groups) and look on craigslist. FOlks love to share their fun roads, provided it's not with 20,000 other people ;)
