Title: buying new parts... suggestions
Post by: Susuki_Jah on December 28, 2008, 11:36:15 AM
ok for those of you who have bought new rear rotors and calipers I would like some advice.

tomorrow I want to buy a whole new rear caliper and rotor ... also I am interested in SS brake lines.

can anyone direct me to the best place to buy from and which brands I should go with. are there any upgrades to the calipers and I know there was a concern with some manufactures producing carbon steel rotors vs. SS rotors.

thanks any help it appreciated!        91 gs500e FYI       I am itching sooooo bad to ride it hurts!!!

I have seen katana 98 and later wave rotors, never one for GS. You swap to the 4.5 kat wheel - I'll gladly sell you wheel for 150 and wave rotor for 125.
Cool.

Cool. I just switched to EBC rotors and pads and I like them very much. They are way better than what was on the bike when I got it...

Just curious, why did you need a new rear caliper?

I will show you a photo later tonight   who ever before me wore it out pretty bad with grooves in it. honestly I should have replaced it when I first bought it but I let it fly for years and just replaced pads sooner. I was not getting that great of rear breaking anyways, not that I use my rear break much though.

They wore grooves in the caliper? How the heck did they do that? I've seen grooves in the pads and rotors, but the caliper? I'm confused. Was it crashed at some point or was something rubbing where it really shouldn't?

you know what I totally answered that wrong. let me explain it right hah.

the rotor has the grooves the caliper body is fine although the inside (or left side) piston has grooves in it from where the grooves in the rotor ate through the break pad and then into the piston. I didn't realize it was so low because looking from the top the pad was fine but it wore in the middle right to the piston and it ended up getting stuck crooked and then just destroyed it. I could have rebuilt the caliper but I decided to just buy one all together and start with new parts.

im a little disapointed with the EBC rotor. it came with out any of the burrs on the metal taken off, I will have to do some clean up on it tomorrow with the file.
