Title: Taking off centerstand and installing spools???
Post by: GSrookie500 on December 29, 2008, 03:51:56 AM
I would like to put on spools for those track stands(T-rex, etc.). Has anybody installed spools for GS's swingarm? Something like what this guy did:

I wonder if he drilled and tapped the swingarm? Not sure how to go by doing this. Thanks

No need to install spools with a stand like the one in the pic. I have the same type stand (Lockhart Phillips). It has vinyl coated L shaped pads for the swingarm to sit on.

I have installed spools on several bikes. The easiest is to drill a hole in the s/a and bolt them on. Just make sure it is in front of the adjusters. I have also welded a boss on the bottom. Used a short length of round stock, drilled and tapped for a 8mm bolt. Personally I like spools over the L-bracket stands, they do not feel a sturdy to me.

Oh, it looked liked he installed some spools, but now that I look at it closer, they look like pads. That another option, thanks :thumb:

When bolting them on, do you mean to remove the wheel adjuster plate and put a bolt inside the S/A???

Yes. Bolt through the s/a with the nut on the inside.
