Title: Front Disc has PLAY
Post by: AyeKay on December 29, 2008, 08:43:22 PM
Hello All

I've been noticing that when I back out the driveway, and hit the brake, it will CLICK , and then when I move foward and hit the brake it will click again.

The disc does have some slight play in it, i can wiggle it with my hand back and forth slightly and hear the click click.

How can i tighten this or is it a non-issue?

As the disc heats up it needs somewhere to go.  The disc retention system of little round spools takes this into account.  The disc should have, at most, a small about of play.  Maybe 1/32" max.  That is normal.

If the play is excessive, it will likely warrant replacement.

You might have a look at the Clymer's manual.  I believe they list a service limit.  I don't have my manual available otherwise I'd have a look myself.

The bike has 14k miles, so I do believe the play is normal. Seems to be minimal and un-effective in relation to braking.

Thanks.

Floating discs are spring loaded washers that keep it on the little bobbins. Side play is OK.
Cool.
