i have been looking at tires and have a question about IRC. anyone ever use them? they are cheap on the amct webesite. i have got about 15k on the avon roadrider front with some tread left for sure, but some cupping as well. i have the same tire on the back with almost 10k, plenty of tread but cupping there too. i would like to be cheap about the tires because i just ride in a straight line. all freeway commute. the only leaning i do is over the tank on cold rides. :woohoo:

If you dont do much aggressive riding you should get the hardest tires possible. They will last you the longest, hence save you the most money in the long run. I have battle axe tires, which are reletively soft and my originals lasted about 12k miles. I've heard of harder tires lasting over twice that long.
No experience with that brand though. Hope this helps.
I dont know much about IRC tires, but you can get a Kenda K671 in a 130/70/17 rear, and 110/70/17 front for probably around $100 before shipping combined for both tires. I've run the K671's on my EX500's with some pretty aggressive cornering and they feel very confidence inspriring, while having a HARD compound that seems to last forever. and I'd be riding like the devil himself was after me.

IRC has been around for years and makes good tires but I've never tried them myself. They're using both the IRC RX-01 and the BT45 tires as oem on the new for 08 Ninja 250 which now has the same size tires and wheels as the GS500 and Ninja 500.

I've got 13k miles on my rear Roadrider and 10k miles on my front and don't see any signs of cupping yet. I've always had much cupping and/or beveling on the dozen or so front tires I've tried on my GS's over the last 140k miles except for the even wearing Metz Laser type tires. So far I think the Roadrider is doing as well as the Laser/Lasertec tires did and will deliver more miles. JP changed his rear Roadrider at 13k miles and still has the first front with close to 20k on it, I saw it the other day and it looked pretty even to me.
If milage is your only concern you can't beat a Dunlop K491 rear. I got 25-30k miles on my four 400-750cc Hondas prior to the GSs. Tried one on the GS but wasn't happy with the grip. It was half worn at 18k miles when I took it off with a non-repairable puncture.
DO NOT use IRC tires. I've used IRC's on my moped and after 1 year they dry-rotted. Same thing happened when I put bias ply IRC's on my Honda CM200T (since they were the ONLY company that made tires for that bike I had no choice). Granted, I never ran their "performance" line.. only stock-replacements but the quality of the tire was crap. On the CM200T the rear tire was a 120/60-16... the bike could ONLY reach 70mph on a good day, and I am a 220lb guy... after about 1500 miles the rear tire was down to the warning strips. Bear in mind that was nearly all highway commute, the bike was simply incapable of hooligan treatment, lol.
Go with an Avon Road Rider or Bridgestone Batlaxx. Also, use AmericanMotorcycleTire.com (or AmericanMotoTire.com)... and you'll find that a better quality tire runs pretty cheap there.

I have IRC RX-01 rear, it's a good japanese tire, has good grip , good value for $$$ and nice looking sport pattern
If buying cheaper tires I'd choose the IRC RX-01 ,I'm happy with mine

I'll have to disagree on this point. No matter how aggressive you ride, at some point in time your life may depend on how well your tires hook up. Hard compounds are downright scary on wet/cold pavement. IMO it's not worth the risk.

is my tire cupping issue due to over/under tire pressure?

im running the "road winner" RX-01R's
seem to be doing a swell job so far!
about 2k on them already (as well as too many burnouts)
so far i really like them and will buy again
i beat the crud outa my lil GS (though i love it and take god care of it)
and they seem to be doing fine... little cupping also but that could be do to my exsessive commuting and wheelies... or just the burnouts HAHA
i got both my front and rear moutning (i took rims in ) for under 150$ for both :icon_mrgreen:
