Title: New Year's Resolutions?
Post by: makenzie71 on January 01, 2009, 06:48:49 PM
I'm making a few.

First...my son is due May 18.  I don't know exactly what I'm going to do, but I'm going to do it well.

Second...I've been writing a book since I was 12...five books, actually.  I'm going to finish one and try and get it published.  I'm also going to have, at least, completed outlines for the two sequels and completed rough drafts for the two companion stories.  The companion stories are only estimated 75,000~90,000 words, so I'm really hoping I can actually have them done.  Each of main three are over 150,000 words and I have the first half of the first novel completed sans final editing.  I haven't written in over 18 months, though, not until the weekend following Christmas.  I'm confident I can get it done.

I'd make more but they'd all be lies.

Sci-fi fantasy stuff.  Always been a Tolkien, Lewis, McCaffrey, and Feist fan.  REad a couple of really crappy yet, miraculously, published cannon Pern pieces and said "I can write something better than this."  Started outlining a few stories that got WAY too big for short story/cannon nonsense and decided to just write my own story.  I love building the world, the characters, the creatures.  Sci-Fi stuff is just way too much fun to write.

Basis is a comet smacked 1 Ceres and both trashed Earth...comet hits and 1 Ceres kind of ricochets off the moon and just takes up orbit which screws up even more shaZam!...and the comet dragged genetic material from 1 Ceres, which used to be a life-harboring planet before being hit by...a comet...and all the alien goo genetically alters basically every living creature and introduces a few new ones.

Think Armageddon, but about 10,000 years post, with magic alien fairy dust that makes every living thing at least slightly telepathic.  One of my favorite stories from it all so far covers how much it's screwed up deer season.

I might take you up on that after I get a full draft completed.  I'm having to have a couple people read it because when you write something over the course of such a long period of time, you develop inconsistencies.

I'd like to finish my book too, but I think that might be too big.  http://faculty.swosu.edu/michael.dougherty/book/book.html

So instead I'm just going to try to lose 35 lbs (225->190), to get better gas mileage.   :D

Ha ha, telepathic deer would really screw up hunting. sometimes I think they are telepathic.

I enjoyed reading the Dragon Riders of Pern series.

Let us know when we can read your stuff. I'll buy.

BeSafe.
