Anyone know if my nuts are in clear and present danger?
I have some computer Uninterruptable Power Supply replacement batteries.

They are type RBC4: 12V, 12A.
"Maintenance-free sealed Lead-Acid battery with suspended electrolyte : leakproof"
This type of battery can be found for $30. I use them to power my kids power wheels.
I have been using this in my GS for the last month, about 500 miles, without any problems.
Anyone ever tried this and had their nuts blown off? Speak up, don't be shy.

If the battery is designed to supply currents lower than an automotive battery, there could be trouble.
It seems like there's a decent chance you'll kill the battery fairly quickly by drawing too much current from it, but since starting usually doesn't take too long it seems less likely you'll set your bike on fire. Good news is that even if it does catch fire, it will be during starting and you won't be moving...
I dont see why it wouldn't work, and if it was ready to explode I doubt it would do it without warning, just check it every so often to see if the case is starting to bulge or swell. If that starts then get rid of it.

These batteries are meant to charge at 1 amp max and are meant to discharge 1-2 amps max. You'd melt the freaking posts - heck its not even got posts, its got flimsy ass pins. Its toast if you hook it to your starter and pull a cool 150 amps. Dont ask me how I know.

I've started it with this battery maybe 50 times, and so far the ass pins are fine. I always thought they were called "blade connectors."
I'll grant you that it has been very cold lately, which may have saved the thing from melting.
How do you know?
