I always buy local whenever I can, but after 3 days and 6 bike shops/dealers later I was frustrated with my quest for the perfect *affordable* helmet. My fat head (not really, just XL) just wasn't liking much ... exept the $450 Arai, of course.
In case anyone else is in the market, check out www.parts411.com. I got a Shoei TZ-1 for $277 :thumb:
What exactly did your head NOT like?
In my case, after a long period of helmet use my ears start to hurt like crazy, even though I don't really feel the pressure initially.
It happens with my own helmet, it also happens with new UVEX helmet and a new GREX flip-up.
Until I find a trully perfect helmet I decided to modify my helmet, using a knife and sand paper to shape the inner of the helmet. So far, it feels better.
D.
I had ordered a KBC Vision from them. I wore it around the house for about 20 minutes (must have looked ridiculous!) and it squeezed my forehead right in my hairline. I had a headache for the rest of the day!
I called parts411 and they approved an exchange. They even sent the Shoei as soon as I gave them the tracking # for the KBC I was returning (instead of waiting to get one helmet before shipping the other).
Sweet. I had a similar experience with HelmetHarbor. I got one helmet in and it was too big. They had a list of last years models for the Shoei's... so I got mine very small helmet (not carried in stores :x ) for around 250. I was quite happy! That and I convinced them to ship it directly to me from the distributer. Hehe... saved like a weeks time!
I love good honerable online places!

I don't think its a good idea to modify your helmet's lining. You need to find a helmet that fits the shape of your head. I had to try on a lot of helmets before I found one that fit well and didn't hit pressure points/cause headaches. I had 3 or 4 that I liked and discovered that none fit so I had to keep trying. Eventually I found the Icon fit me perfectly. I just had to go to all the gear shops and dealers to find one that was right
hmm....i got my shoei z-II for $300 at motoxoutlet.com...its 2 models up the line.....
