Click on the "history" tab at the top of a spammed page. Then find where the page was changed to spam and click the "restore" link just underneath. Then save.

I just did this for the maintenance page, but I don't have time to find and fix any others right now.

Hmmm, that's strange.

When you click "restore", you should be taken to an editing window where you can see the code of the wiki page that you are restoring. You then have to go to the bottom of this editing window and click "save". Did this window show up for you? Maybe you missed this last step?

Click history

Scroll down until you find the last time there was real content

Hit restore.

They do it so there are more pages with links to their website.  Then when google counts how many people love their website enough to link to them, they get a higher search rating, and show up first on a search.

I would never do anything like that to boost the rating of my website,  http://beergarage.com (http://beergarage.com).  That would be wrong, and no one from http://beergarage.com (http://beergarage.com) would ever do that, because http://beergarage.com (http://beergarage.com) says NO to that kind of chikanery!

it seems like there is some kind of code that automatically messes it up after you hit restore.
I could be making this up but where it says To: there is a bunch of stuff that looks like code that I cant seem to erase :dunno_white:

I should probably flesh out these instructions a bit.  Sorry the earlier Wiki Fixi was so thin.

1.
Follow me.
http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Site/AllRecentChanges (http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Site/AllRecentChanges)

2.
For example, one of the recent spam atrocities:
Troubleshooting.NeutralLight . . . January 11, 2009, at 03:32 PM by TestName: JzUIywTvQGf

click the text "Troubleshooting.NeutralLight" that is a link to that page.

3.
Then , on the top of the Troubleshooting.NeutralLight page, click the "History" tab.

4.
Then, scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the page.  That is the last time there was any real content that was not spam.  It reads:

Restore

Hit the next to last "Restore."  This will take you to an Edit page, but it will have already filled in all the restored text.

If you hit the very last "Restore", you will restore it to the nothing that it was before Sanjay created it.  If you hit the second to last restore, that restores it from the 2008 edit to the 2006 original.

5.
Now we are on this edit page.  Immediately below the edit box, you type the "Summary:" of your edit, "stoopid spam" or something.

6.
below "Summary:" is "Author:".  This is you.  You type in your name or your ID or your CB handle or whatever, and then whenever anyone looks at these edits, they will see that it was YOU who saved the day.

7.
Click "Save"

8.
Collect the admiration of your peers, the lust of the women, the bacon off the top of the meat loaf.  Huzzah!  The day is yours!

(edit to make more grammaryer and colorey)
