I haven't been riding because it's broken, and I haven't been fixing because I haven't had time. This is how motorcycles end up in someone's garage or yard forever, and I'd rather see someone get some use out of my trusty old GS or at least its parts.
This bike is a 1994 GS500. It was running until just a few months ago when I noticed the front brake disc was worn thinner than spec, then in trying to replace it, I discovered some brain surgeon had used red loctite on all the bolts instead of blue as the shop manual specs. Thanks to that plus my ace mechanic skills, the front brake disc bolts are now all stripped or broken. That's the problem that's taken it out of commission. If I were to try to repair it, I'd probably start with a new wheel and go from there. I have spent a lot of hours trying to get those bolts out, and have only succeeded in making the problem worse.
As far as the condition of the various parts, it had clearly been dropped when I bought it, but I replaced a brake lever and it rode fine for years (I bought it in late 1999). The gas tank does have a dent on the left side, and there's some scrapes on the plastic and turn signal near the back. The mileage is indicated as 24568, but when I bought it the speedo was disconnected, so I'm sure it has more than that. There is some rust here and there but nothing alarming to me. It is registered (California) through August 2009.
It has an aftermarket windshield installed since I was using it for commuting. I have the Clymer guide, original owner's manual, and shop manual. I have a new in box EBC front rotor as well.
The engine and battery are fine, so it's no problem to start it up. Drop me a line and arrange a time. My email is factotum@pair.com.

NOTE: SINCE THE FRONT BRAKE DISC IS ATTACHED ONLY BY BROKEN BOLTS, THIS BIKE IS NOT SAFE TO RIDE.
EDIT (1/12/2009): I forgot to mention the speedometer housing is damaged (speedo still works, trip odometer doesn't). The metal panel holding the instruments is slightly bent.

If I was posting to Craigslist I'd have to charge something to compensate me for dealing with all the losers, but I'm hoping this works out better.

I live in Fremont and am very interested if you still have the bike I could pick it up any time this week just let me know when your available? I'm willing to pay you for your time and the brake rotor.
Use a small propane torch on the parts which have red loctite on them. If you get it hot enough it just lets go. Hope this helps for whoever ends up with the bike.
The bike was picked up the weekend after I posted it. It is no longer available.

Thanks, but I was worried about messing up the bearing right next to the rotor bolts, so I just used an end mill to get the bolts out then helicoiled it. The wheel is back together and on the bike, but one of the intake tubes was cracked, so it wasn't running quite right. I just got the replacements in the mail today and hopefully I'll be able to get this bike running again this weekend...
