Question for you peoples. I came across this on craigslist. Just wondering if it'd be a good bike to start on as an alternative to the 500, and whether the price is decent. Nada only goes back to 95 so I'm not sure whether it'd be overpaying or not. What's your opinions on it?

that should run smooth as a hondar. ;)
get some new tires, brakes, bars, and enjoy it !
So the drag bars are a no-go for a newbie? Anything in particular i should be on the lookout for? From what i understand shafties are pretty ironclad with proper maintenance, but i dunno the guy, so i dunno how good he was about it. Sent him an email, see if i get a reply on it.
Looks like a good deal to me. if it runs right and has seen good maintenance, it should be a great bike I suppose. the amount of maintenance a vehicle gets is what determines how good that vehicle is over the long haul.
I've got parts of a GPZ1000 motor here that really drive that point home. oil wasnt changed at all, and as it broke down it caused the motor to fail severely, like complete bottom end failure, bearings, rods, the works.
1500 is a bit pricy for an 82 but that is only my opinion.
Hell my brother just picked up an 86 GPZ750 in good nick for $850.
I agree that $1500 is a bit pricey for an 82, so i kept looking while i try and get ahold of the owner. came across a 83 GS750E for $1k. Considering the year, you think that'll be too much power? iirc the 750 has about as much hp as a modern ninja 650, but weighs a bit more. Anyone ever ridden one of these old bike and knows what the power delivery is like?
Here's the ad for it. only one pic, and it's 3 hours away though. oh and is it just me, or on the 650 in the first post does it look like it doesn't have any mirrors?
