Title: My plan failed...
Post by: neverendingninja on January 13, 2009, 04:37:53 PM
Well, I bought a stock SV650 can from a fella on svrider.com, and was planning on chopping it and installing it on my GS500. I've heard of it being done(Pablo's FAQ), but apparently there are two styles of SV650 can...I had no idea.

So, I cut my exhaust down, went and picked up an adapter flange, and go to stick it on...no go. The pipe is too large in diameter, and hits the swingarm, and the pipes don't meet up properly. I suppose all of this could be fixed with a custom hanger and a little welding, but damn thats a lot of work.

Looks like I'll be off the bike for a week or so, and I'll have to order a V&H Supersport exhaust :'(

My wife is never going to believe that I didn't plan this!

Pics of the setup?  Maybe you did something a little off...we can help.  Any muffler will work, it's just a matter of the installation.

Let's see some photos.

Where are you located?

I'll get some pics soon.

I'm in Fairhope, AL.

Not sure what I could have done wrong. The O.D. of the muffler is too big...hits the swingarm before it will connect to the mount. The only way I could really get it to work is to, like I said, do a custom mount and some welding on the pipe itself.

I just want the V&H now :cookoo:

Which is why we all know that none of the stock mufflers off any bike actually fit or work without major hacking and welding. Usually they are not an improvement either when you do get them fitted on.
Cool.

MAN!  How did you get your taxes done already!?!?!  I haven't even gotten my W2!

Well...in actuality, I didn't get the taxes filed yet. I do know how much my return will be, though...so I knew I could afford it. I have to wait on my W2 from my previous job before I can file.

Stick with the "sorta deal" and avoid the "anticipation loan" - awfully expensive little piece of work, that. For that matter, spend a little effort adjusting your W-4 so that you have only $12-20 more than your 2008 taxes come to taken out when you hit the end of 2009 (well, more [110%] for y'all that make more than $75,000 and still ride a GS...)

Woah you lost me on that one!

Yeah, you totally lost me on that, DoD#i.

Just FYI, they only took $6 in Fed Tax out this year, and refunded it all.

edit; oh...you thought we meant that I actually got an anticipation loan? Well, kind of. I gave myself an anticipation loan(does that sound dirty?). I took some money I had, that I normally wouldn't have spent, and bought the exhaust because I know I'll be getting back more than enough to cover the exhaust.

P.S. Before anyone bitches about it, the motor was warm before I shot the video. I didn't rev a cold motor like that :flipoff:
