Title: 20 year old review of clip ons :)
Post by: ohgood on January 18, 2009, 05:34:16 PM
So i figured I'd try out the "new" 89 clipons that have been waiting for me all week. Between the sun setting early and 19F nights, I haven't been motivated lately.

Topped off the tank, pulled over to the air station and checked the tires. Didn't even get finished when 3-4 bikes went by on their way to play.

Guy on a new sv650 -almost- kept going, but stopped and chatted it up a minute. "New to the area, blah blah blah, wanna go play ?"

Took him out to the twisties, showed him one  of the cool roads to get low on, and no one crashed. Sweet !

The positioning of the clip ons definitely isn't comfortable for my wrists. There was an extra set of what looks like 3-4 degree bars taht came with the top plate, so I may end up trying that soon. Haven't noticed any buzzing in the bars. Maybe my hands were too numb to tell. ;)

Likes: turns, turning, turned - anything that has to do with turns
actually makes sv650 mirrors even more usable !

Dislikes: hunkered position

The fella on the sv said he just got done with a track day at barber recent, and this road was the one he's heard about. Had to get back in time for the kids naps, so that meant flying up a boring hiway on the home route. :(

Ah well, love the clipons. Can't tell it's a 20 year old piece on a 12 year old bike at all !

Rockin :)

blah blah blah clip ons suck...are the GS500 clips fork mounted or top plate mounted?  I may try to find some...my forks are the same diameter.  Kidding, clip ons are awesome.

top plate mounts. i wasn't really sure until they arrived. i was surprised to find they weren't mounted to the  tubes. there are 2-3 sellers in the 'got it fo sale homie' section right now. low post counts though:(

Meh looking for clubman's, then, or a decent set of Honda bars to invert.
