i have some kinda of knocking noise in the engine. first thing i did was valve adjustment and its is still doin it can some one help me figure this out please. thanks :dunno_white: :dunno_white:
1992 GS500 with 2005 motor 92 carbs 150 mains air pods and slightly modded stock exhaust.
That's the cams moving across the head (that is laterally).
Sounds like a common noise thats not an actual problem. Maybe a little more description on when, how, what, where, and why to help us diagnose the problem.

it sounds like its in the the bottom of the engine, even my brother thinks it sounds like its from there. i think its more on the right side while sittin on the bike. i went on a trip for about 300 miles with a buddy and it started doin it at problay about 215 miles. it only make the nosie at low rpms between 3 and 4 thousand then it goes away in higher rpms.. does that help any...

I'm by no means a pro but I think scratch may be right (cams noise which is quite common and harmless)

I cant say what the fault is from that description, I would be guessing, same as everyone else. Lets get realistic........You have 2 options......you ignore it until it gets worse, makes itself more obvious and goes pop big time...........or
you pull the engine and start looking for the cause :dunno_white:
Getting a pro` to check the oil pressure would be a good place to start.

me more specific, under what RPM, throttle, left side or right side. Does it do it when its idleing.
The more input, the easier it is to help sort out some possibilities.

I think it is cam play. But, if you're not good on bikes maybe a gstwinner is near offer a 12 pack and may get help. Or take 'em in to a mechanic
I've had the camshaft side play knock on both my 97 and 02 GSs and it only knocks at idle on a hot engine and goes away before 2k rpm as you pick up the revs. Dreamer_85 has a knock at between 3k and 4k rpms so it isn't the infamous camshaft knock he has.
It would be interesting to know if he hears it knock at a steady throttle or when backing off the throttle or when he is accelerating. A knock when backing off the throttle could be a rod brg while a knock under load could be a main bearing for example. Piston knock or slap is heard mostly at idle.
Some GSs have developed a counter balancer shaft knock but I've never heard one of those so don't know how they sound or when.
is the knock a tap a thud a deep or hier pitch. ( know you say down low and all that, ) but what does it sound like, and im assuming no way to yt a vid and sound of it doing it? also check oil level, and fill if necessary
oil is fine. if the cams do slide around how to i fix it.
If its the cams, I dont think there IS a fix.
as was stated we need more specifics on what kind of sound it is, rattling, clatter, thunking, etc.

Notice any difference?........ The 06 engine has shims and wavewashers fitted (parts 2A & 2B, and parts 8A & 8B). These parts limit axial movement and in effect spring-load the camshafts to prevent them floating. I believe that parts are available from Suzuki dealers that will fit pre06 engines that do the same thing and will rectify the problem. I have even heard mention of it being done free of charge by dealers under warranty. I dont know if the parts for the 06 engine will fit previous engines but a dealer/parts dept may be able to answer the question.
Personaly I think you are barking up the wrong tree....... If the cams are floating the noise is lost at anything much above tickover speeds and the condition is not detrimental to the engine or performance.
The best place to start is to get the oil pressure checked, if it is significantly lower than Suzuki recommend its a sign that a bearing somewhere in the engine has worn and from the description you give......... thats what I would bet on.
what/how do i check the oil pressure. :dunno_white: kinda sounds like a clunking sound but not like the motor is gonna blow. i know what that sound is.
gs cam float is so you know it's running. that is all. :)
